Whats The SEC Record After Today?

5-7 is mediocre

We fired a NC winning coach for 5-7 seasons

It's nothing against Butch. He just needs a better DC and OC

Ok at least I understand your point of view.

I'm going to wait until we've got better talent to make up my mind on the staff.

I think it is a huge positive that this staff has been together for a long time.

We will find out soon enough.

EDIT: Fulmer also got fired for a mess he created. Clawson was a bad fit. CPF's recruiting was not good in the later years. He would have been better off getting a long term OC in 2006 instead of bringing in Cut and his guys for 2 years.

Wow! Didn't realize so many yankees had moved down here amongst us. Our losing records makes them want to root against our SEC brethren.

Its just as important for the SEC to be strong as it is for UT to be strong. Us against them....outsiders that is. Couldn't ever be against the South versus other competition.

I'm going to bet most Vols fans would put us being strong a bit above the rest of the SEC being strong on the importance list.

To be the best, you got to beat the best. The best recruits flock to the SEC, even the smurfkitties this year. Why is that? I think it's because they get to pay against the best. And that IS one reason thiz years commitment class (yeah, not yet signed ... yada yada) is so outstanding. The SEC has for many years been winning the national recruiting battle and part of that is the bowl record, not just regular season. We get recognition, $, and recruits.

No. We did pretty well in the 1990s when only tn Florida were nationally relevant year in year out. Aub lsu bama UGA etc all had losing seasons during that time and were inconsistent at best. Sc Vandy ole miss miss state were horrible. In turn TN thrived. Since the mid 2000s the sec has gotten stronger and stronger and TN is now suffering through its worst records in history. I'll take the 90s and the mediocre SEC thank you

Put your musket down chief. I'm no Yankee. I've just come to realize that if our immediate competitors, say Florida, Georgia, Vandy, SCar, etc., win more games and recruit better than my school, Tennessee, that it tends to hurt Tennessee. We're going after most of the same recruits and we're sure as hell going head to head on Saturdays.

Explain to me how the other teams in the SEC winning more games than us, going to bowls games when we don't, getting more exposure than us, and more than likely parlaying all that success that into better recruiting classes .... helps us. It just makes no sense to me. This isn't 1864 and it sure as hell ain't a North-South thing. It's a "I'm for UT, not their enemies" thing.

This.

Vol fans please stop with rooting for our biggest competitors! When they do good it hurts our vols. Many on here were excited Aub made it to the BCS then we have a recruit flip to them. I hope every SEC team loses their bowl game!

Then how do you explain losing to the bad teams? No one roots for Vany and they still beat TN.

First line is gold.

The rest is silver but still well put.

We're in year 1 rebuilding a talent depleted roster and they're in year 3 of the greatest winning era in Vandy history?

Don't pull for your enemies..... other SEC teams, especially other SEC East teams are. The. Enemy.

A strong SEC helps us in recruiting imo. As a state that doesn't produce high #s of top talent it helps as a selling point that players will be playing against the best plus all the other stuff.

Just an opinion...take it for what yall want.

Side note: for someone that grew up/lives in the heart of Big 12 country and has lived in the heart of Bigten country u really have nothing else to do but root for SEC teams to win cause there is nothing more annoying than hearing it from Big10 and Big 12 fans.

At the end of the day..People have their opinions on why they prefer a stronger SEC and why they don't. I prefer a stronger one personally, but understand the opinions of why we shouldn't want that. Imo more old school to not though. Thing is that the BCS era changed that old mind set. Forced old school rivals to bite their tongues and root for each other at times just to be in a better position. Is what it is now and to each their own imo.

Yeh, me too. I really want to be the sorriest team in the sorriest conference. I hope they all lose.

We would never have won a National Championship around here had it not been for Steve Spurrier. He pushed us around til we fought hard enough to beat him. When we were that good we could win a National Championship. And yes we do get more respect for being in the SEC. And we get a piece of the pie when these other teams are bowl eligible.

The SEC is an attraction but we really didn't have any issues pulling talent when it was UT/UF against the rest of the conference. So at best it's a wash.

Yeah the "don't play the best to make u better/the best" crowd seem to be scared. Personal issue imo.

This argument makes me think of the school bully praying the night before the 1st day of class that none of the new kids turn out to be bigger than him.

Still haven't figured how its helped us yet

When we go 5-7 out of SEC the rest of the country (but more importantly recruits) think we suck less than if we go 5-7 out of any other conference. Also, even though we are losing we are still playing against NC level teams all the time which means big stage and national spotlight (again recruits love that). As simple as that - but it is important for all SEC schools for the SEC to remain clear #1.

How does it help us well that pretty simple a lot of folks seem to think just because we get our behinds handed to us by what they call the best conference in the county "THANK YOU NEBRASKA FOR NOT BELIEVING IT SCREW GEORGIA" makes us something great.:post-4-1090547912: what a joke. GO BIG ORANGE AND SCREW THE SEC :shaking2:

it will help in strength of conference and strength of schedule when the playoff board considers the 4 teams for the playoffs......

Here's a link to the article explaining why we want our conference teams to kick azz in the bowl games....

New playoff system needs to figure out how to weight schedule strength - College Football - ESPN

It doesn't "appear" to have helped us so far because we aren't good enough to get into the mix....but it will be very important when there's a debate on the committee when trying to decide who gets the 4th playoff spot from among 3 or 4 teams with one-loss in the future.....simply put--if there's an SEC team with 1 loss among 3 or 4 other teams--the SEC conference reputation and historical DOMINANCE over other leagues will definitely be important. It's really very simple...

I am Extremely Glad SEC teams are winning their bowl games...:salute:

Yeah but that's pre-BCS and it's effects, and UT was riding a different wave then. So imo not so much a wash in these times.

I guess the bigger question would be which is a strong pull...playing in the SEC or Uniforms from either Nike or Adidas??? Now that's a poll there boys.

It'll be interesting to remember all these people that don't care for a strong SEC when, and yes I mean when, UT is chosen for a playoff spot over another team and the main factor is well...stronger competition.
