Brethern my ass. Auburn just used their BCS title game apperance to come in and take one of our prize recruits. That worked out so well for us. You guys go right ahead with the SEC rah rah bullcrap.

Exactly. Been happening for a while also. We're still in the crapper, but SEC, SEC, SEC !!!!

Well hell fire if he didn't want to be in orange then forget him then. That's what I says about that rights there!!

At the end of the day, imo, if we lose a commit after he commits then we weren't the right fit or CBJ didn't sell him well enough. Simple.

Yeah but that's pre-BCS and it's effects, and UT was riding a different wave then. So imo not so much a wash in these times.

I guess the bigger question would be which is a strong pull...playing in the SEC or Uniforms from either Nike or Adidas??? Now that's a poll there boys.

It'll be interesting to remember all these people that don't care for a strong SEC when, and yes I mean when, UT is chosen for a playoff spot over another team and the main factor is well...stronger competition.

The BCS had nothing to do with the fact that UT pulled Championship level talent for years with the SEC not being dominate.

It's not so much rooting for SEC teams, it's how excited some seem to get about it. Kind of like bragging that your better looking friend gets a lot of girls.

Lol +1 my position is I don't just like watching UT football. I enjoy watching LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss... I LIKE those teams cuz I'm a FOOTBALL fan 1st, UT 2nd. I don't lilke other teams in other conferences.

It's not quite that simple. You see guys like Lambert are difference making linemen. They're not filler or guys that have to go through a program for 2 years or more to make a contribution. The fact of the matter is. It really doesn't benefit Tennessee for teams they're recruiting against year in and year out to be playing for national titles. Makes it harder to win those recruiting battles. Look at the last 5 years or so, it's a pattern. Tennessee holds on to these guys right down to the very end then they flip. So either, they're being offered something we're not offering or the national title game appearances and all the exposure they're getting is helping. Either way it's helped kill this program , but keep right on rooting SEC , SEC , SEC!!!!!!

This.

Vol fans please stop with rooting for our biggest competitors! When they do good it hurts our vols. Many on here were excited Aub made it to the BCS then we have a recruit flip to them. I hope every SEC team loses their bowl game!

Extremely short-sighted and narrow-minded post. I've lived up north in Indiana and been made fun of for being a "southern redneck from the hills...."

I have also read how ignorant and backwards we folks are down in the south--and particularly from Tennessee. And I AIN'T about to pull for some a-hole conference teams who think I'm ignorant because I was born in the South against my fellow southerners!!!

I am a Southern boy--Southern bred--and I will DANG WELL BE PLEASED to root for my Southern born brethren playing in the best conference in the land!

I am restless and impatient--but expectant and confident that my beloved VOLS will be back sooner rather than later--then it will be a REAL privilege to watch them beat some Wuss-10, Puss-12, and Jr. league Big 12 butts again.....

I understand some of you guys not wanting to pull for our rivals--and some even say AU stole a prize recruit--but I don't care--if Lambert really wanted to be a VOL, he woulda been a VOL....but since he don't--I don't give a CRAP about where he plays because we still gonna make him regret not coming to play as a VOL!

GO SEC!!! SEC, SEC, SEC...

And one final word--NO self-respecting Southern boy can tell me that he'd actually rather see a bunch of boys from Nebraska beat a bunch of Georgia boys (and I absolutely HATE the puppies)!

I understand how it works. It helped kill the program cause old school mind sets didn't adjust for the times. That's no one's fault but UTs leadership during the time that it left us behind..ie Fulmer and the rest.

UT competes nationally for players and always has, so doesn't matter whether or not they are in our conference or not. So if we lose a commit to FL St what r we going to whine about then??

So we lost Santos, who would have contributed quick as well, last wknd before nsd to utx...is that because they were in the NCG or doing so great??

So imo if we lose, for whatever reason, a player that COMMITED then he wasnt meant to be or CBJ didn't "commit" him enough. It is pretty simple imo.

Good for you....just don't be on here crying in a few years when our one-loss Vols--hypothetically--get shut out of the 4th and final playoff slot to a Wuss-10 team with one loss....That's where it's gonna bit your view in the azz....

And then maybe you will care.....but then again, maybe not...

Linemen are prize recruits. Teams do anything to get them, We've been losing those battles, especially for DT's. That's the facts. Don't expect great things until we start winning those battles. Dooley got skill guys here, couldn't get better than Sun Belt linemen. That's why he's no longer here. Doesn't matter who your coach is. Butch will be gone too in 4 years if he loses out more times than not on guys like Lambert. All starts up front. All that flash and dash means nothing if you can't rush the passer or keep your Qb upright.

To hell with chanting for the SEC.

I was born in Louisiana, lived in TENNESSEE 20 years and am an alumnus, then moved to Alabama for nearly the second 20. Married a Georgia girl 14 years ago and this self-respecting southern boy would root for a corn-fed Nebraska mid-westerner any day of the week before rooting for the fruitcake bulldogs, or Tide, or Tigers. You fans living in Indiana and other non-SEC states have no idea what it's like being a UT fan here during these dark times.

It's US versus the world.

Lambert flipped because of Rodney Garner--THAT'S IT! And losing Lambert is not gonna go KILL this program....There's SO much fail in your post....

Fulmer killed this program--NO one else to blame--HE did it...He did it through arrogance, indifference, and laziness...Just look at his last 4 recruiting classes from 2004-2008. And just ask yourself how good was Auburn, Alabama, UGA, UF, USCe, and LSU during that same time frame...(the point being that Fulmer had EVERYTHING POSITIVE to sell about UT over all other programs, but just didn't get off of his azz and get out there and get it done!).

The only question that will NEVER be answered is whether 'ol Phil could have returned us to National prominence again....but let me be clear--FULMER, and not the success of other SEC programs in BOWL games decimated this program. :salute:

The administration killed it. Fulmer had pull but they didn't pull the trigger on ole Phil soon enough. No losing this kid won't kill it, but it continues a trend of losing these guys. Lawson , Gabe wright and Dee Ford. We were in on most of these til the end and it was Auburn each time. We've lost some others to other schools also.

Don't get me wrong i like the class Butch is bringing in. I don't think the Line haul is anything special though. Starts there guy. Always has.

It's US versus the world.

I lived in Bham, AL for 4 years from 1989-1993...and I learned to hate the Bammites during those years. But at least the Bammites never looked down their nose on me and thought they were better than me as a fellow southerner...they just hated the Vols...and it was all about the SPORTS, and had nothing to do with heritage.

However, I did live in W. Lafayette, IN for a short while back in 1988 thru July of '89--and had plenty of "so-called" educated people who thought that they were intellectually superior just because they were born up North and didn't speak with a southern 'drawl.....

I'll NEVER root for one of those teams--or ANY non-SEC team against my SEC brethren...

I'd rather suffer a little sports ridicule over a FB game than have some ignorant SOB think he's intellectually and personally superior just because he was born above the Mason-Dixon line....But--:peace2:--you ain't my enemy.....just different in perspectives...and I can live with that....:salute:

Uh--excuse me--but there was nothing for the admin to kill if 'ol Phil would have taken care of his bizness.

This staff missed on Lambert--but just what did we lose? Lambert didn't even qualify. CBJ and crew have hit on more than they have missed--and Feb. 5th still hasn't arrived, so we will see how it all works out.

And I understand that the SEC is a LOS league--but I also know that losing a guy like Lambert will not make or break this team. You're thinking that he will is short-sighted.

The 2014 season and the 2015 recruiting class will be a GREATER indicator of where the program is headed than missing on Lambert. :hi:

Would it be better if OSU took those types of recruits and SEC therefore became less talented and eventually less relevant? At least Auburn is in our conference and we get the chance to play and beat them.

5-7 is mediocre

We fired a NC winning coach for 5-7 seasons

It's nothing against Butch. He just needs a better DC and OC

No....Your wrong...Very wrong...He needs a better TEAM...Better PLAYERS...Not sure how you figure this team was an SEC title contender or however you are making them out to be, but IYO they are an amazing team with a bad coaching staff and that my blood sucking friend is just not the truth...Bear Bryant couldn't have won with this team so I'm not sure where you get the idea that We need a better coaching staff....Remember, you can't polish a turd.
