Whats your job?

I worked for a couple different transportation companies when I was in college. Now I work for a big consumer goods company, doing inventory analysis. UT has one of the best supply chain programs in the country i believe, and I know alot of big companies recruit from Tennessee such as Proctor & Gamble, Newell Rubbermaid, International Paper, etc.

Most of my friends that majored in Logistics got really jobs right out of college. The key is make sure you get some kind of good internship while you are at UT.

And I graduated in December '08 so its pretty recent.

Ah, thanks man I apprecite the info. Ill definitely have to look into that major now (never really considered it). Would you say that there are a good number of jobs out there for logistics grads and are the jobs pretty well paid?

I'm trying to keep my mind/options open but am intrigued and interested in that field, ill just have to research it some more. But that's why I made this thread, to learn about things out there that I haven't yet considered, and y'all are helping a lot.

No problem. There are alot of options for that major and its a pretty hot job right now. Like I said before most of my friends that majored in Supply Chain/ Logistics got very good offers pretty quickly out of college-- 1-5 months after graduation ( keep in mind i graduated right around the time the economy was nose diving). And other people that i know that did other business disciplines such as international business, marketing and advertising are still looking.

If you want to message me sometime with questions I would be more than happy to try and help. I am not an expert or anything, I can just relay what I experienced my 4.5 years at UT.

I got my bachelors from UT in political science, class of '08. I'm finishing my masters in aviation administration from MTSU in 2 weeks.

In the mean time I work as a cook and also for an aviation consulting firm.

Been in Mfg Mgt 21 years now. After a 7 month job hunt, I 've moved from textiles via several stops the last 5 years into bearing manufacturing. I'm the plant supervisor for the evening shift.

Alot of what I saw in the job hunting on the business side were transportation/logistics but with lower overall compensation; supply chain - especially in developing/building/managing international channels; and engineering. Alot of companies now use engineering grads with business MBA's. Not the trend when I was educating, but would actually have been my strongpoint. Healthcare industry is huge. always alot of articals on Yahoo showing trends in employable fields. But, as you can see here, there is alot of diversity in employment and many ways to get there. If you are in school my advice: Pick something you like, co-op during summers or more frequently to get a leg up on the other graduates, and take one of those tests to find out what you really like and are wired for.

I have a degree in Education but have never used it. I have been a manufacturers rep in the sporting goods industry for almost 30 years now. It has been and still is a blast. Currently the National Sales Director for an athletic flooring company.
Have been lucky enough to work with almost every pro team and college in the southeast.
The first thing people ask me is, "how can I get into that"? I was extremely blessed with an opportunity as soon as I finished playing baseball. So the answer is...."its not who you are, but who you know".
I was also an official for 10 years. Umpired D1 baseball for the last three. Then along came kids and the travel was not worth it.
