Where are the "Martin can't recruit guys"

Stokes has always wanted to come to UT. He was a lock under Pearl. I didn't think no way he comes here when CCM was hired. Just too big of a risk for him with every big time bb program wanting him. Got to give CCM his props on getting back in on him and convincing him to come here. Hopefully, with his Tobias type work ethics, he will come in here and be a leader that this team needs.

You're not allowed to celebrate his signing. You've been too big of a ***** about everything else.

He didnt do all the work. I would thank the brother and the unusual situation he was in with no offers from UK/Memphis.

Grats.

Again, for those of you that did not hear Stokes' interview on the radio (in Knoxville) this A.M., he made it clear that Cuonzo Martin was the main reason he chose UT. He said when Pearl was fired, he figured there was "no way" he would end up at UT, until he had his first conversation with Cuonzo. So all you Mempiss and KY fans can get off your high horses and quit using the "no offers from UK/Memphis" as an excuse. Face it, CCM out--recruited little boy Pastner and Calipari for Stokes.

We got lucky on this one guys, it is clear as day. It is not a condemnation of coach Martin to say that either as some would lead you to believe on here. I honestly believe not Pearl, coach Martin, Tobias Harris or anyone else was talking that kid into going anywhere but Memphis if not for his unusual Set of circumstances that put it into his best interest to attend UT.

Or just believe whatever makes you feel better, that works too

Is there a replay of the interview that I can find?

I have seen too many things and talked to too many people that are certain Stokes was coming under the old staff. He has admitted as much himself. Martin did a remarkable job keeping UT in this thing, but I will agree that the entirety of the circumstances surrounding his situation certainly helped CCM's cause. It is irresponsible to ignore that the stars aligned perfectly for UT to get Stokes, all things considered.

The next test for Martin will be trying to build on the momentum of Stokes' signing and parlay it into more wins and more top-level recruits, particularly players out of Memphis.

Wrong 100%! Go to the 13:57 mark in the interview with Jarnell Stokes and listen to what he has to say about talking with Coach Martin.

Right, so after you sign with the only school on your list of finalist that can accept you as an early enrollee you are supposed to go on the radio and exclaim to the faithful of said school that you really would have rather gone to memphis instead??? Of course he can't

His only option was Tennessee...period. He wanted to sign with a school right now and Memphis and UK could not accommodate. He was seen wearing a Memphis hat a local high school game recently, sent tweets out exclaiming he was sorry to the memphis fans, but this is what was best for him right now.

I am sure he loves coach Martin, but to believe he would choose UT if he was not forced to sit out his senior season of high school is reaching. I

How aboutttttttt Florida?

was Florida ever really a player? As far as I understand it the front runners were always Memphis, UK, UT and Arky

Shows how disconnected and uninformed you are. Tenn. and Florida were his top 2 choices in the end. Go troll somehwere else why don't you...

yes......in the end.....because UT and UF were the only two schools with scholarships available. Are you even paying attention here? He could not early enroll at Memphis, do you not understand this? What else was he going to do?

Before you point to your stupid radio interview again, yes, he did pick UT over UF because of coach Martin, but he only came to UT because his other choices were eliminated due to circumstance, not by choice.

Originally, before he was denied his hardship Florida was not even on his primary radar. Suddenly he can't play his senior year and boom he needs to early enroll somewhere so he just isn't sitting around a year not playing basketball.

Arkansas also had a scholarship.

I agree that CCM basically had this one fall into his lap, but here's the thing. He didn't blow it. CCM closed on a 5-star recruit. He took advantage of Stokes' eligibility situation and outrecruited two pretty good SEC coaches in the process. It isn't completely his accomplishment, but it's still a pretty damn good start to his tenure at UT.

I hate UK as much as the next guy, but I wouldnt say CCM out recruited Cal if Uk didnt even offer.

How dumb can you be? Can you seriously say with a straight face that getting no offer from a school, doesn't influence a decision??

And to be quite frank, I didnt even hear anything about Stokes until a week ago. I bet half the KY fans didnt even know him...So they weren't "on their high horses".

I was very happy to see him go the Vols. The Vols need Stokes more than MemPHIS and KY do.
