Where are the "Martin can't recruit guys"

Because he was only considering (truly considering, not what he told Rivals/Scout in his 5 minute convos with their beat reporters) Memphis and UT. He had narrowed it down to those two. Arkansas, Florida, Uconn, Kentucky, all red herrings.

Before the TSSAA decision, most reports said Memphis was staunchly in the lead.

Ah, so Jarnell actually said that? Especially a kid who kept things pretty close to the vest?

Also, if we are going with reports, Gary Parrish said it was going to be Florida or Tennessee the day of Stokes' announcement.

Gary Parrish was wrong. Many people have confirmed that Florida made a strong push for Jarnell in the days leading up to his committment, Gary Parrish and only Gary Parrish ever mentioned it was UT and Florida. Parrish was just as wrong as the folks who said UK was in the mix, or it was a UConn and UT race.

Jarnell never actually said anything about any of his "final 6" schools but glowing praises. I managed to figure out where he was going, however, as did many others.

Again, where are your sources? Where are your reports?

All you are doing is speculating.

Oh, and on the sports animal, you know what Stokes said swung the signing of Stokes to Tennessee?

His relationship with Coach Martin.

But you go ahead and think that 12 games for a NIT team swung the deal and that he's that shortsighted.

I know because I've paid attention to his recruitment. There are no reports, because the "reports" didn't contain any information that was useful. You can't go by what Stokes says, because he's clearly playing the PR game (and well). I've gone by what AAU coaches in the Memphis area have said and what Jarnell's father has said.

Stokes knows how to swing the PR stick, as evidenced by the Coach Martin comments. He had Arkansas fans wrapped around his finger throughout his recruitment when in all honesty, they had been an after thought for months.

He also knows that it's a lot easier to make millions of dollars in 2013 if you have a resume of 45 NCAA games as opposed to a resume of 30.

John Wall, Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, and about 50 other players say it doesn't matter.

I think highly of Stokes, but putting him in that company is an overstatement.

Of course it is, but still the statement was incorrect. The first pick of the draft played in 10 games, while the 2nd pick played in 60.

And if the second pick had only played 10 games by the time that NBA teams were evaluating him for the draft, he'd not have been drafted.

Exactly my point.

STill bad logic. 10-12 extra games this year for Stokes won't help or hurt his draft stock.

Unless of course he comes in and contributes from the first whistle and elevates our game so much that we win the SECCG, go deep in the tournament and then he becomes the ESPN poster child of the year.
Sorry got carried away.

Hope you are right.

No. Also just a lil while ago today that Coach Martin is what swung Tennessee his way and didn't even mention the TSSAA ruling had anything to do with his decision in the interview today.

But you go ahead and think that he's going to let 10-12 games of a most likely NIT team affected his decision the most.

I've seen you mention a "meaningless 10-12 games" on a couple of occasions. He will be eligible for a little more than you are giving him credit for. Minimum, he will be eligible for 18 games (16 conference games, UCONN game, and at least one SEC tourney game), and none of which I would deem meaningless. That is the meat of our schedule.

Not that it changes your argument, but I thought I would point out that be will be eligible for a little more of the schedule than you seem to believe, and it could be argued that it is the most meaningful portion, rather than meaningless.

You're right he will be. I was talking about regular season, but hell, I wasn't paying attention.

But he's not playing for a Final Four. That's mainly my point is that he isn't coming to Tennessee just to play in a few games for a most likely NIT team.

Here is the thing, gauging CCM's recruiting ability off a guy not even in classes yet is kind of silly. Yes the signing is exciting, it could very well open some doors in Memphis, but the guys he already has here playing are a much better measure.

In particular the 2 he is solely responsible for and was questioned over signing all offseason. Wes and Yemi. Leaving Yemi's game last night out of the equation, both have played much better than should be expected and look to be major contributors for the next few years. He saw players where most of the posters here saw wasted scholarships. I am quite impressed with his player evaluation thus far and if he can keep bringing in guys that fit he will do fine.

Stokes, I really hope the kid contributes and he may well contribute, but until we get some legit shooters and someone to get him the ball in the post, there is only so much he will be able to do. We need a zonebreaker PG and maybe Wes can be that but we need 2 so we can put golden at the 2 where he belongs. We also need a real shooter that is more than a roleplayer.

Thank you Mr. Pearl!

Huh? He was complementing CCM's talent evaluation. On the other points, he is correct. Even if Stokes provides solid contribution out the gate, our main problems (guard play) will likely persist/be inconsistent.

Memphis guard maybe considering a transfer? Joe Jackson is not happy with the tigers.

I guess some things never change.

I'm not so sure that Jackson is a major upgrade at PG for us. The knock on him is the same as Golden; a PG with a scorer's mentality who plays out of control and makes bad decisions. It would allow Golden to move to his natural position though.

Who would be a better SG though?

Golden because I think Jackson is the better alternative at PG. The better of two bad options in other words.

Don't misunderstand my original statement. JJ would be better as a PG than Trae, but is still not what we need at the position. He would be a huge improvement on the defensive end because he is much quicker than Trae.

All in all, we are not in a position to turn away former top 20 players.

If you're into storytelling:
Kenny Hall gets so motivated he starts taking ballet classes to improve his footwork.
He sticks a gummy sugar daddy on the inside of his waistband and dabs his fingers before each pass.
Takes 5 hour energy formula before each game and averages triple doubles for the rest of the season.
