Where are the Orgeron Haters?

I like how you state - "those grounded to reality" well the reality is that none of us know what is going to happen so why are you jumping on the panic button??? I am not a big fan of either fulmer or cutcliffe but that is who we have and that is who I will support because - like it or not - they are UT Football. DO I have delisuional thoughts of us being successful - yes - because we have a butt load of talent on the sidelines - most of these kids from this class won't even see the field for another year or maybe more. So I am not gonna put myself on suicide watch because we didn't have the best class in the country. Just chill out.

I couldn't care less what you or your mother say. Go back to your Cutcliffe shrine and leave the debate to those grounded in reality.

once again, i'm pretty sure we dont think of Cut as a "god" or anything like that but he is our OC and that is who we have to support and we all want to believe that he can get it done and get us back on the same level as "texas tech" and "L'ville" in your book or maybe we will get lucky and even return to what UT football was in the late '90's or the way they played in '01

I've never extolled the virtues of Louisville.

I'm glad our "discussion" was cause for entertainment for you guys this morning. Bottom line. The Big O has to get some wins to garner my respect.

Another thing that people seem to be forgetting here is that last year and this year Miss.State has been minus 4 scholarships and minus 11 expense paid visits for recruits. Next year they get everything back. Also, Southern Miss. return a lot of talent this year and they have back-to-back winning seasons capped with bowl wins. History suggests that if Southern Miss has a big year they will pull more than their usual share of regional talent. Hat's off to Ole Miss for a good recruiting year but IMO it will be a lot tougher for them next year.

This is ridiculous. If he was hired to recruit then you might have a point. He was hired to win football games. He has not done that yet, and until he does he shouldn't get any respect as a Head Coach.

One, I'm not an Ole Miss fan. Two, keep thinking everything's OK Fulmerites, a 7-5 season this year will show just how good things are. I'm so looking forward to the Music City Bowl in Trashville.

Nice, you take a cheap shot at Fulmer, UT football, and the great city of Nashville all in one post.

hat, i understand the basis for your rant and all, but c'mon man. You actually sound like your hoping that we go 7-5 or worse, just so you could be right....we all expect better, esp. from our resident recruiting guru CPF. It is and has always been one of the things that has always been at the top of his resume, and to have a season like this, well, it's not horrible, but it's not good compared to our standard. but like i said earlier, last year we had the #1 class, year before that we had the #18 class, and that was after a subpar season as well.... and depending on what you read, i've seen our class ranked as high as 16 or 17 and as low as 25 or so....it's all relative.

be frustrated, be disappointed, be critical, but man don't lose faith, or support for YOUR team.
Go Vols brother!

Your right, We are Tennessee not Kentucky or Vandy here. We dont stay down. I dont see us losing like we did again this year. I see us doing a lot better. By the way I dont think Texas Tech could have came back & beat LSU like we did this year. Our name shouldnt even be mentioned with Texas Tech much less compared to in football

Exactly. Maybe you can tell Phlabby Phil that. Everyone has used his recruiting as the last line of defense against criticism. As '98 gets further and further in the rear view mirror, it becomes more and more obvious that we aren't an elite program. We're the SEC equivalent of Texas Tech.

hatvol, we've won or tied for the SEC east three out of the last six years. Is it realistic to expect more in a division that includes two other top tier programs? How many big 12 south titles has Tech won recently. I''ll take the good with the bad for now and just wait until the end of next year (if its bad) before I seriously start to worry.

Are we reduced to counting division championships? Is that where Fulmer has led our program?

Calling Nashville a great city is like calling the Ford Fiesta a great automobile.

Nashville is a happening City & for damn sure Mississippi has nothing to remotely compare. Let's see there's Jackson, McComb, Gulfport, Greenwood, duh, that's about it.

C'mon man you have got to be more real that that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now as far as Coach O goes, he's still a nut. Obviously, he turned out to be a fairly decent Head Coach & a good recruiter. But real is real!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alot of programs (ala Texas Tech) would love to be "reduced" to counting division championships.

You're right. I should put Nashville in the class of New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Rome, Milan, etc. Given that Nashville has given us cultural contributions like Jim Varney, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Cletus T. Judd, I can't imagine what came over me. In fact, we should move the US Capitol and the Metropolitan Opera to Nashville, where they can be truly appreciated by Davidson County intelligencia.

I'm guessing hatvol is a "glass half-empty " kinda guy. I have been to two of those cities (include LA as well) and would live in Nashville any day of the week over those cities. I would rather live where people are friendly and laid back than cities where people avoid eye contact and are hurried and stressed.

Let's see, Orgeron has multiple National Championship rings as an assistant and Pete Carroll said he was a bigger loss to the USC staff than Volnation favorite Norm Chow. I'll say he can coach a bit. Maybe if mini-Fulmer had recruited any SEC level talent at Ole Miss, the Rebs wouldn't have been as bad this year.

So how exactly is a coach to be judged? NC ring? Orgeron has 2 as an assistant; Fulmer has one as a head coach - advantage Fulmer. Orgeron gets a slightly better recruiting class than Fulmer who has consistently had better recruiting classes than the one Orgeron got; including a top 1, 2 or 3 last year - advantage Fulmer. How about the record? Even in Fulmer's worst year it was better then Orgeron. Bottomline, what has Orgeron proven as a head coach? Not much. He may end up being great but the signs are not overwhelming to date.

Amazing that in your continued attempts to trash Fulmer; you prop up a coach like Orgeron. You maximize his limited accomplishments and diminish Fulmer's. No bias there

Actually, Orgeron has 4 rings as an assistant. I'm not really attempting to "prop up" Orgeron. I'm simply making the point that those on this board who lampooned Orgeron this fall must have trouble with the fact he outrecruited Pope Phillip the Pious and Rotund.
