Where are the Orgeron Haters?

You're right. I should put Nashville in the class of New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Rome, Milan, etc. Given that Nashville has given us cultural contributions like Jim Varney, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Cletus T. Judd, I can't imagine what came over me. In fact, we should move the US Capitol and the Metropolitan Opera to Nashville, where they can be truly appreciated by Davidson County intelligencia.

Never said it was like any of those places. But it isn't trash, as you so aptly put it.

I agree, that's probably a bit harsh. However, there isn't much else that rhymed properly.

I'll give you an example from my favorite sport, college basketball. Lute Olson is more pious and smarmy than our current head football coach. However, I have to give the man credit for standing the test of time. He's earned his place in the Basketball Hall of Fame. I simply don't think the man currently running UT football is anything special as a coach. Therefore, I don't feel bad criticizing all of his numerous flaws.

Again I ask, what are the criteria for judging a coach. LO has stood the test of time you claim. In 23 years he has 1 NC, and 4 Final Four appearances. Additionally, his team is not only not in the Top 25 - it received NO votes in either poll to be in the Top 25. Adding the teams that did get votes, UA is not even in the top 35 or 40. Add to that the fact that UA has been bounced in the first or second round of the tourney as many times as they've had Final Four teams - in every case as a higher seed. Under LO, UA has underachieved in the tourney as much or more than overachieved. LO is a Hall of Famer and CPF is nothing special?

Perhaps if CPF was kept around for 23 years, his accomplishments would be more impressive than LO's.

Arizona's basketball program was pathetic before Olson took over. How many Final Four appearances and NCAA appearances did Arizona have prior to his arrival? They now have the longest active streak of NCAA appearances. The last thing anyone should ever do is compare Fulmer to someone who built/resurrected a program. Fulmer was born on third base and acts like he hit a triple.

That active streak is in trouble this year... Fulmer had taken his team to a bowl game every year until this year. Sounds similar to me. LO among the highest winning percentage - ditto for Fulmer. One NC a piece. You say LO built the program but that happened pretty quickly, he's had at least 15 years of an elite program and about the same to show for it that Fulmer has.

The Pac-10 is typically the 4th or 5th toughest B-ball conference depending on how the SEC ranks. Typically, the ACC, Big-Ten and Big East are tougher. Olsen compiled his excellent record in this environment. He hasn't had a consistent tough opponent. UCLA has been up and down, Stanford was good for a few years, Washington looks like the team this year but that's a very recent occurrence. ASU, USC and maybe Cal on occassion mount a threat, Oregon? Oregon St.? It showed when he got to the tourney. There are as many UA flops as there are bad Peach Bowls.

I'm not downing Olsen (I think he is a Hall of Famer) but his record and Fulmer's have more in common than they have in differences. To tout one as a Hall of Famer and the other as merely average is a stretch at best.

I would absolutely love to see Fulmer take over a bad program. Let's see how quickly he'd turn it around. Arizona is an elite program because of Lute Olson. UT was a traditionally strong program before Fulmer took over and it will be long after he's gone.

Also, you're failing to mention Olson's successes at Long Beach and Iowa. How many Final Fours have the Hawkeyes played in since he left?

Unless it's about hydroponics, granola, or Greenpeace, I don't need any input from Oregon.

Born in NC, moved to Virginia Beach Virginia at 8, lived there for a couple years, moved to severville tennessee untill 9th grade, moved back to NC, then moved to Florida, lived there for 2 years, and now live in Oregon... Just thought I would let everyone know so I dont get sterotyped anymore....
