Where is freshman Mike Matthews?

We don’t play our younger players and develop them enough in my opinion.

Based on about 40 years of following the sport, I would surmise that Matthews was a little more raw as a true frosh than a lot of our fans wanted to believe. I promise you nobody wanted to win more than Josh Heupel and if he'd have thought Matthews could help us do that, he'd have been on the field more.

Why does it take our players 4 years to be ready while other teams can play true freshman that become instant impact players? Hell we got cooked by Jeremiah Smith who is a true frosh.

Where is this deep WR pool everybody is talking about? Based upon their performance all freshman should have gotten play time this year.

I’ve had the same thought. Hopefully the coaches can show him a path to 1,000 yards receiving next fall. He is in line to be one of Tennessee’s top receivers. His only competition is Brazzell.

Boo Carter started as a Freshman. David Sanders expected to start next season. It happens at UT.

I’m starting to believe CJH is as loyal to his upperclassmen as he is to his asst coaches. I find it hard to believe our Freshmen are that far behind everyone else’s. The only other possible scenario is poor development and creativity by the coaching staff

Find the silver lining, brother. Neither could Jalin Hyatt as a freshman and sophomore. There aren't many Jeremiah Smiths out there.

That's not true. They were playing deep then flying up. No steps backwards. And 3 is basically man. We ran 1 deep pass play. Play calling has been an issue for a couple of years.

Jeremiah smith was a rated as a 101 5 star prospect. I’ve seen 100 never knew you could hit over that. He’s a once in a lifetime recruit. We won’t ever have a Jeremiah smith come to UT

Yep. This staff's reluctance to play youngsters is going to become problematic....in both the portal and in recruiting. Plus the position coach stinks.

Nah we’d put him in halfway through the season but only use him for blocking
