Where is this "expert recruiter"?

OMG I cannot believe it isn't Christmas already, so much for this Jesus guy, why can't he have brought Christmas to us sooner? So much for being an expert messiah

oh, oh, oh......I am sorry. He was "PASSING COORDINATOR".

Wow. The USC passing coordinator is was responsible for the #1 recruiting classes.

Do you conveniently forget things that don't fit your point? Do you think Pete Carroll would admit that "Lane Kiffin implemented the recruiting plan that we still have today" if it wasn't true? What about the fact that Kiffin was assigned all the states except for California? Do you think they would assign all those states for a hack to recruit? While Lane was at USC they did much better at landing out of state/region talent. Also, just because he wasn't the OC doesn't mean he didn't have his hand in the offense. The postion coaches often have more of a hand in the actual coaching of the players while OC's like Chow scheme up the plays.

Some on this board do not put much weight in who the staff is, and are more worried about who the HC is. The staff drives the car. The head coach oversees and makes sure it is runnin' right.
In short a good staff = a good runnin' car.

people need to have patience! Kiffin has only had 2 weeks to recruit while other coaches have had all year! when you recruit it's about forming a relationship with the player and his family and correct me if im wrong but it's really hard to do that in 2 weeks. I think he has done an excellent job in these 2 weeks. he's already had one commit and has other top recruits looking at coming to tennessee! and he's done all of this while having a wife that is 8 months pregnant and 2 other (young)kids. i'm sure it's not easy to leave them behind for a week while he goes and recruits all over the nation

Good post. There's one thing I haven't heard people mention. With LK and CPF being such polar opposites in personality, it should be no surprise that CPF's recruits might not gel with Kiffin and vice versa. Kiffin's told a few of CPF's recruits that their services would not be needed and it stands to reason that some of CPF's recruits would go another direction. The better indicator of Kiffin's recruiting abilities is to look at all the major recruits that CPF had no chance with but Kiffin does. If Kiffin's recruiting is not in the top 15 next year, then people might have a legitimate complaint. Expecting Kiffin to pull a bunch of recruits out of his :moon2: right now is not logical or fair. Ever heard the analogy of the one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest?

Exactly! And despite what anybody says about Kiffin, nobody would have put together a better staff. Their response will be "Why didn't we hire one of the staff then?" Kiffin is the guy who could get all those guys to coach under him and is the link in the chain. It's still too early to say but all indications show that UT made the best hire available. The total package that UT got is so far above what any school got with their off-season hire that it really makes no sense to whine and complain about Kiffin's NFL record which means very little. 5150, you like to bring up Lane's record at Oakland but don't ever mention Monte's record in the NFL as a DC or the Super Bowl that his defense won for the Bucs. People aren't taking you seriously because you are presenting one fact as if it tells the whole story while conveniently forgetting other facts. With your obsession with LK's NFL record, it would be interesting to see what your comments about coaches like Pete Carroll, Steve Spurrier and other NFL failures are. BTW, how did Butch Davis do in the NFL?

I ask him that, All I could get was, Their previous college records or some crap. When he told me Richt was a quality hire with his resume and Kiffin wasn't because of his, I realized there was more to it. It also seems that the staff has nothing to do with your football team. All they do is chest bump, clap, and pat the HC on the back after a great play.
Whatever:dunno:

There definitely is something more to it. My guess is jealousy over Lane's hot wife or success at a young age. 5150 has some legitimate concerns but his personal bias is getting in the way of valid points.

I am not attributing this class to Kiffin. The suggestions that UTK staff purposefully sabatoged this class after the announcement of Fulmer's departure digusted me, although I'm not that surprised about it. If Kif snares a big name or two that was completely off the UTK board then he deserves some kudos, but I just don't see how an objective person can blame the new head coach for something that he had so little control over.

I agree Hillbilly.

I think some of you are being a little unrealistic with Kiffin's so called under achieving recruiting right now. You have to realize we just lost a coach that has been here for 17 years. Philip Fulmer was known as one of the best recruiters in college football. If I'm a senior who was looking or committed to Tenn. and Fulmer was let go, you can be sure that it would make me want to look around or change my mind on where I want to play football. So many uncertainties with our team and staff. You can't blame Kiffin for that. Just give him time, relax, and everything will work itself out. Just like Kiffin said, "it's going to take time." Lets give him his time.

Kiffin never was an "expert recruiter". This perception was built based on a couple of comments made by former coaches, and then propagated by all the "Kiffinites" who are in denial about the "bag of goods" they were just sold.

This was one of the many "advantages" relative to hiring Kiffin that have absolutely no foundation.
Link? Source? how about current coaches.......like, um, Pete Carroll?

if you keep saying it long enough, i guess you will believe anything you keep telling yourself......

thank you Stan Drayton.

Agreed HB.

Good post.

Just to add to the talk, word on rivals is that Marlon Brown is now a silent commit to Ohio State.

I don't think it was so much as a silent commit as it was in sign language. :eek:k:

Just thought I would add to the useless drivel on this thread, everyone else is!

While that is true, Forum Rules also say:

"A little ribbing is OK, but if your posts consist of nothing but taking shots at coaches, players, teams, other posters, etc., then this is not the place for you."

There are several posters of late that bring absolutely nothing to the board but taking shots on Kiffin. If this is you, then perhaps as the rules state, "this is not the place for you".

i believe he was in fact, not the man behind usc success.

just my opinion,time will tell.

right now,as i type he is on his own recruiting (besides the top rc guru from sc-his bro n law).i see top recruits decommitting as well as top recruits being told they do not fit his system.

this is bad in two parts:

a.you may be a top athlete but you also may not get a chance to prove yourself because i dont know how to use your talent but one way.

b.other recruits have now had two weeks to hear thru the grapevine that the new coach is not pulling recruits as quickly as some thought he would.(buying in)

maybe we will get a splash staff to save the day :)

do you see?

and i'm sorry, but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that being honest with a potential recruit is a bad thing.

that, and the argument you present makes no sense at all.

then we should have just hired you for 500 a week :eek:lol:

I would say this thread will completely change now that Monte has announced he is coming. Recruiting should really pick up now...

His time at USC has already passed. Future events cannot alter the past. Time, meaning the future, will tell us nothing about Kiffin's role at USC.

In your opinion, do you take top athletes who will not fit into your system simply because they are top athletes or do you take athletes that you feel will play well in your system?
