Where is this "expert recruiter"?

there's a huge difference in that Drayton had no idea what the new system might be when making his comments.

No, but he was being honest by telling the kid he was uncertain about his (Drayton's) future with UT. If being honest with recruits is as important as everyone has made it out to be with the Boyd situation it would stand to reason that the same logic would apply in the Giles deal also.

regardless, Drayton displayed no loyalty to the outfit signing his checks. Kiffin showed no disloyalty in being honest with a kid about the likelihood of his playing.

It was an entirely different honesty.

........heres my offical take on the hire:

its all going to be ok,everyone said they would be willing to sh*tcan the recruiting class for a new coach.

In your opinion, do you take top athletes who will not fit into your system simply because they are top athletes or do you take athletes that you feel will play well in your system?

theyre goes a potential top 5 class in exchange for lane*****kiffin, this will without a doubt go down as the worst hire in tennessee vol history.

What do you hope to accomplish by continually beating this drum. Do you want us all to come around to your way of thinking and be depressed by our prospects for the next few years.........or do you just enjoy "Trolling".

not naming your staff immediatly is just the first of the many boneheaded misstakes this guy will make.

This was no surprise, he addressed it in his 1st press conference. Did I miss you complaining about it then? Did you not watch or hear it or is this just another thing to "Troll" about?

inexperianced, unproven, unqualified to be head coach of the tennessee vols...period!

Jake, I'm not trying to be argumentative here and this is really more of an observation than anything else.

Kiffin was honest with Boyd about him not fitting into his system and everyone applauded him for it when Boyd pulled his commitment. Drayton does basically the thing in letting this kid Giles know that he isn't sure about his (Draytons) future with the program and all of a sudden he is sabotaging recruiting?

I don't get it. On one hand everyone is patting Kiffin on the back for being "honest" with Boyd and on the other Drayton is being accused of being a trader for following his potential boss's lead in being honest with one of his recruits??????

It has been suggested that Drayton could have manipulated the situation in order to keep the commitment. Couldn't Kiffin have done the same?

How is one more wrong than the other?

Now, I don't know the whole story behind the Giles/Drayton deal so my perception may not be right. But from what I have read in the media that is how it went.

You are dead on.

BPV basically covered it.....but the gist of it as i understand it to be is that before a hire was ever made, Drayton was telling his guys to look elsewhere.

now in merit, what you state is likely true. he didn't know what his future would hold and he was telling them what he honestly thought. i can understand that.

where i think i draw the line is that Drayton didn't know (at least to my knowledge anyway) who was going to be hired, what system was coming in, or whether or not he was going to be retained.

what if he wsa retained? then he'd have to go back to each of those kids and re recruit them?

it seemed to me to be only a reaction to Fulmer getting fired than Drayton looking out for the recruits.

i believe he was in fact, not the man behind usc success.

just my opinion,time will tell.

do you see?

and i'm sorry, but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that being honest with a potential recruit is a bad thing.

that, and the argument you present makes no sense at all.

its just my opinion, not stated as facts.
see post above....you sure about that?

please enlighten me ole wiseone.something besides a one liner.put some thought in it..............please :)
if only you could follow your own advice......

Say Drayton had lead his recruits on, say he didn't come clean with them about his perception of how things were going to play out. What would that have done to his reputation as a recruiter if his recruits felt they had been mislead?

Maybe he was more concerned with being labeled a "liar" (maybe to strong of a word) but I would imagine it would have hurt his reputation in some fashion as a strong honest recruiter.

He may still be looking for a job and I would imagine that reputation would be a strong factor in his ability to get another job.

honesty would have been I don't know. He took it much further than that from my understanding. IMO, he was being vindictive and nothing else.

who says you have to lie?

"Plans have not been finalized as to who will remain on staff, but I believe they will hire someone very capable of developing your talent if I am not chosen to remain. You will be in good hands. They hired me didn't they?"

He's paid to coach and bring in recruits to UT, not the U of Stan Drayton.

Anyone that slams a coach before the first day of practice is a moron!

Give the guy and his staff a chance. You...90% wanted Fulmer fired. It's done! Get ready for the new guy and see what happens.

Those that blast Kiffin....He has 10 x more football knowledge than everyone on this site....combined!
Let the guy do his job!

Did some of you really think he was goin to come in and pull all of the best players away this late? Lets get serious.

We are already saying he is going to bethe worst hire in TN history and he hasn't coached a game. Is this becasue one of Fulmers recruits left to go elsewhere? FYI boys and girls. Fulmers Top classes never won anything. I don't count the East as a win because you don't get anything for it.

Next year will be his class so like some have said we can evaluate hime then. But in all honesty it won't matter what we all think. He doesn't care either. Bad mouth him if we are terrible in 2 years. But give him a freakin chance.

overkill.

Had we hired Woody Widenhoffer, people would be absolutely justified in making judgments based upon past performance at this level. We didn't hire Woody.

The final statement about football knowledge is absurd. There is a helluva lot of it on this board.

this may come as a shock to you,but hes suppose to be on the job right now. 10 x more football knowledge then the whole site combined ? now thats just a stretch
