We have a winner. That is pretty cool. They should have sung Rocky Top (was it a thing then? I think Rocky Top came after '79)On tour with THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND as owner/president of Mountain Sound - we had the Charlie Daniels Band and the MTB on tour doing 150 shows a year with each band. - On March 8 we were in Vancouver, BC and March 19, 1979 we were in Portland Oregon - I don't have a list of all the dates and shows but we were typically on the road for 28 to 30 dates and back home for 10 days between road trips.
I turned 33 on March 24 that year and will be 76 in a couple of weeks. - I doubt I was even aware we had won that year - rock n roll & the road are not conducive to keeping up with current events.View attachment 439246
Or in 1979 I could have been out with the CDB on this east coast swing. that's the thing about rock & roll tours - the damage done to brain cells can seriously mess with memory

Still in school.... Sidebar, just realized our student number WAS our social security number.. Right there on the face of our ID. How times have changed.
Bernie and Erny were fun to watch. Stokely rocked. Got to admit though, this years team is special.

I don't remember the championship game so much. I do recall the tense 101-100 game against Bama in the 2nd game. The Vols last SEC Tournament title, 1979. Were you born yet?
If you watched the game, what do you remember?
I watched the game with my dad at my uncle's house...I think that is the year we beat Kentucky 3 times...
I remember it well. Just like it was yesterday. I was not long out of school and in Knoxville. While I remember where I was, I don’t remember how the evening ended. Nice to be young. Being a lifelong UT fan but born in Kentucky, beating UK three times was just the best. I told my daughter when we were at the Auburn game this year when they introduced Don DeVoe that he was my hero from having beaten UK 3 times in 1979. That tourney championship was in OT IIRC. Beating them 2x and winning the SECT in 2022 is very sweet. I think I will remember how this day will end but I’m a little older now.
