I was a high school senior, getting ready to head for Knoxville that fall. I was sitting in the car with my girlfriend listening to the game on the radio. I rember the special nature of the event because it was the first renewal of the tournament after about a 25 year layoff and when we won the game it marked our fifth straight win over Kentucky.
Wow
Wow an OT win and neither team was ranked in the SEC finals? I was 8yo & don’t remember watching but what a unusual game. 44-37 at half, 55 all at end of regulation. Did they quit shooting in 2nd half? Was the shot clock being used yet? They had a guy play 43mins who didn’t do a thing practically (3pts 4rbs). Can someone who watched help me out? JoAllen or Shakinthefat little postgame report?

That makes since. What a crazy game tho. Score 44 in 1st half then decide to stall and only score 11 in the 2nd!!! I’d have had a meltdown watching even as an 8yo. Thank god for the shot clock. Which now that I think about it came along around 1984 right? Thanks for the info Thunder…There certainly was not a shot clock and Devoe would pull the ball out and go into a compressed version of Dean Smith’s 4 corners. He’d often do that with even a 5 point lead and 5 minutes remaining. The PG out top and two pairs of players screening for each other or the PG at the free throw line extended on both sides.
