Gundy would have been an absolute disaster. He would have come in with a huge ego because of his moderate success at Oklahoma State and wouldn't have put in the work required to win in the SEC. I think Bret Bielema is a very comparable hire at Arky. Big ego, has already been successful, and doesn't have the drive or passion to prove himself on the biggest stage in college football.

Strong is an interesting hypothetical. I wanted him bad at the time. Yes, Strong beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl, but I think that CBJ was on the verge of getting Cincy back to the Brian Kelly era of success.

I think they are very similar coaches, but I give the edge to CBJ based on work ethic and recruiting ability.

I'll delete guys who are definitely worse than Brian Kelly. I don't think Patterson or Peterson will win more than Kelly. Your list was inflated.

I'd probably be tracking planes and looking for smokescreens... waiting on Groooodennn to save us.

In other words, both of the named coaches were higher profile, but none (IMO) could've re-energized many of the fans the way Butch has. There's no sense of hopelessness for the future of the program (for me) like there was when we hired Dools.

Watch the 2009 UGA vs. UCF game. Makes Mark Richt look so good! Why hasn't Richt been in the national title game at a school with massive amounts of high school talent. Phil had more titles than Richt. Kelly atleast got to the game within 3 years, before Richt has in 13 years. Atleast Kelly hasn't lost to a mid major in a bowl game.


Give Saban a month to prepare for anyone, and they will blow out anyone.

Seems like there was a coaching mistake at the end of the SECG that cost UGA any chance of winning. Can't remember due to that deep depression I had fallen into thanks to DD.

All this being said, sooooooooo thankful for Butch and the energy and life he is bringing back to the program.

They'd probably win on athleticism, but not on coaching and the score would certainly not be the same.
