Which SEC QB's would you rather have over Worley?

I just don't agree with this line of thinking. Even if we throw out the Alabama game, where he played horribly, by saying that he was too injured to be effective (I don't like this line of thinking because it assumes that Butch Jones started a guy who he should have known, after a week of practice, was too injured to play), we still have to deal with the fact that 5 of his last 8 drives against South Carolina were 3-and-outs. And his completion percentage was under 50% for the second half of that game (and most passes attempted were short passes). That's not respectable. That's pretty mediocre, and that was the "improved" Worley that was "hitting his stride." That's scary.

For the Vols and most of their fans nowadays, mediocre would be considered respectable.

Neither did Vandy or Kentucky, so there's that. Actually, I wouldn't say SCar did either.

It was meant as a joke but, if you want to talk serious for a moment:

Kentucky put up nearly 400 yards against the Vols.

So did SC.

SC had 2 turnovers and a missed FG inside TN territory.

Vandy marched it right down the field when the game was on the line as well so I have a hard time feeling good about the defensive effort against them this year as well.

My bad. Sad that our defense was so bad that I couldn't tell you were joking.

I knew I was reaching a little regarding So Carolina and forgot that UK had that much success vs UT. But relative to the absolute meltdowns vs Oregon, Bama and Auburn, those games stand out as being some of our "better defensive efforts".

You're right about Vandy marching down the field at game winning time....it was sickening. That being said, they had less than 300 yards for the game and only 30 or so the entire second half before the last drive....UT clearly couldn't play a complete half of defensive football or they win that game.

The coaches really drilled Worley with "manage the game" and "don't make the critical error" so it should not be surprising if he was hesitant to take chances. Doing that probably won the USCe game and kept them in the UGA game.

I'd agree with that assessment btw but the coaches MUST loosen that up for QB's and the receivers or it will never get better... and it has to be better for them to actually compete with and beat better teams. That kind of play gets you 9 or 10 wins in the Big East... it gets you fired in the SEC without a dominant defense.

People are quick to forget how quickly Worley was improving during the 117 campaign. One off-season of work can make a huge difference, just ask Michael Palardy.

I agree he was getting better but it is difficult to tell how much. The WR play was bad due to inexperience and IMO less than spectacular development by the position coach.

I think all 4 QB's have SEC talent. They need coaching, a stronger receiving corps, and rapport with the WR's.

How much was he improving? He was averaging around 5-6 yards per pass and just over 50% completion percentage in just about every game. The only real statistical difference between his best games (Georgia and South Carolina) vs. his worst (the ones right before and right after those games) was that he didn't throw an interception (but he also only threw 1 touchdown in each). He still had a ton of 3-and-outs. He had 5 3-and-outs in his last 8 drives of the South Carolina game, which helped give up the lead and nearly cost us that game.

When you people say that he made huge strides or that he had become a decent SEC starter, I honestly wonder what games you were watching.

He improved from a grade of F/D- to maybe a C- perhaps? I do agree, if he hadn't gotten injured I think we would be bowling this year. Dobbs was atrocious in comparison.
