Which USC players can we get?

For those interested, here are the applicable sections related to the transfer rules for student athletes as it relates to USC's players. I wonder how it affects a player like Glenn Stanley who bailed on the Vols...he probably had two years of eligibility in three years time.

13.1.1.3.3 Transfer from Institution Placed on Probation by Committee on Infractions. It is not necessary for an institution to obtain permission in writing to recruit a student-athlete at an institution that has been placed on probation with sanctions that preclude it from competing in postseason competition during the remaining seasons of the student-athlete’s eligibility. However, the student-athlete’s institution must be notified of the recruitment and may establish reasonable restrictions related to the contact (e.g., no visits during class time), provided such restrictions do not preclude the opportunity for the student athlete to discuss transfer possibilities with the other institution [see Bylaw 14.8.2-(c)]. (Adopted: 1/10/92, Revised: 1/9/06 effective 8/1/06)

14.8.2 Residence Requirement Waivers. The Legislative Council Subcommittee for Legislative Relief may waive the one-year residence requirement for student-athletes under the following conditions or circumstances: (Revised: 11/1/07 effective 8/1/08)

(c) On the recommendation of the Committee on Infractions, for a student-athlete who transfers to a member institution to continue the student-athlete’s opportunity for full participation in a sport because the student athlete’s original institution was placed on probation by the NCAA with sanctions that would preclude the institution’s team in that sport from participating in postseason competition during all of the remaining seasons of the student-athlete’s eligibility (see also Bylaw 13.1.1.3.3); (Revised: 1/10/92)

In short, I think it says that no permission is needed from USC for any school to start contacting junior and senior athletes although USC can set reasonable restrictions aimed at preserving student academics. Any school would need approval to waive the one year player sit out from the Committee on Infractions. I wonder what their stance would be if there was a large exodus of players from USC? They may not like it. Any thoughts?

Anyone think that FL or Bama might try to pull a player or two just to stick it to Lil Lane?

Doubt it unless it was an elite guy like a Ronald Johnson.

Now as for Tennessee, I would think they would be very interested in a number of upperclassmen if they were wanting to go elsewhere.

Question: What effect does a USC appeal have on the players' ability to transfer? And if they can't transfer until the appeal is denied, how long does it take for the NCAA to rule on the appeal?

Is it too late to have a camp at Neyland for USC's rising Juniors and Seniors, or would that be in bad taste?

He will push most of them out the door. He will only keep the ones who want to play there, and play hard. He will pare the team down and then use playing time to sell recruits on coming there. USC usually only takes 4 and 5 star guys anyway, and rarely take over 20, so it is not going to be that hard on Lane. It will give him an excuse for a couple of years for not being undefeated.

Idk much about their players but found it real interesting just how many jr. and sr. are on the depth chart. Not just that but how many of them are listed as second string or lower.

Needless to say, I have found in my 24 yrs that the nice guy usually does finish last and the scum of the earth never have to face much consequence for their less than upstanding actions. But today, oohhhhh so sweet to see things play out!
I'm oh so proud to be a noble, genuine man; and Vol for that matter!

True...but Cal, UCLA and Oregon have all shown some life lately...you have to believe that they'll catch and land alot if not the majority of those 4 and 5 stars that don't want to be a part of that ban..

When USC does come back from this I think they'll find the playing field alot more level at that point...

This is the best sports related news I've heard in a long time!!

According to the bylaws, the penalty imposed on USC will not be set aside unless their is an abuse of discretion by the Infractions Committee. Very broad terms are used in the appeal process but it is faily limited as to the factors that the Appeals Committee can consider and that USC can raise. After 4 years of looking at this, I am sure that each committee is aware of the conclusions and finidings in this administrativie action.

USC will almost certainly appeal and will try to use the process to buffalo their kids into staying...just based on my perception of O's and K's prevous histories. Which will probably be effective to an extent. How many people on campus will advise them of their rights although outside coaches may do that. Most coaches thought that their shenanigans with our early enrollees were way out of line so I'm not sure how that might play out. At the same time, they have made their share of enemies.

Unfortunately there is no time frame for the appeals process except that USC must file a notice of appeal within 15 days stating whether they want an in-person or in-writing only hearing. They could raise a lot of issues and send a lot of paperwork with the only aim of drawing out the process since the Infractions Appeals Committee would have to respond with findings on the issues raised by USC.

The one silver lining is that the IAC gets to determine the procedures for any appeal so they may limit USC in this respect

Posted this in the Mitch Mustain thread, but this one seems to be getting most of the action. Why would Mustain not have to sit out a year if he transferred to another D-1 school? I don't understand that. Is there a rule if a team gets put on probation players can transfer and play elsewhere immediately?

Ok, question to the board. What players do you WANT from USC? I say Kalil, Martin Coleman, Broderick Green

Fill out the 10 schollies we have with OL and DL. Maybe Mustain if he decides to transfer. He is from SEC territory and is better than what we currently have.

Also, if you are transferring and have your option to go anywhere, are you going to come to a rebuilding project in TN or go to a team that may be 1-2 pieces away from being a contender.
Seriously, I think that is a fair question to ask. Not all of them will necessarily have that option, but if they are good enough, then they will.

This is a fair question. Here's another way to look at it though. Many of them will transfer due to lack of PT. A rebuilding project will likely offer tons of that to get you some exposure for the league, and you're probably better than what the rebuilding project currently has on roster or it wouldn't be rebuilding.
