Whisky, bourbon or scotch and what's your favorite?

What are people’s favorite Tennessee whiskey?

If I’m allowed to include Belle Meade even though they market their product as bourbon, I’d say mine is their Cask Strength Reserve. If not, for the price I like Dickel Bottled in Bond. Barrel Select is reliable and a smooth sipper.

Picked up a bottle of the Dickel yesterday and i'll probably grab a Cask Strength Reserve this weekend. been wanting to try both.

My liquor store got in some Yellowstone 2019 Limited Edition and Michter's Toasted Barrel Sour Mash. Are either worth buying? My hesitation w the Yellowstone is that it's $100.

If you a like Beam or Knob Creek, you'll like Yellowstone. I was was not happy with the purchase and gave it to friends to drink

You mean any Beam whiskey? Also this is their limited edition. I’ve never had their regular stuff but this is supposed to be quite a bit better

My wife was making Derby pies for Thanksgiving and picked up some Southern Comfort 70 proof on the cheap ($15) to use. The recipe calls for Jim Beam but I don't drink Kentucky alcohol (just a Tennessee pet peeve of mine, lol). She didn't use very much for the pies, so I got the rest. I was surprised how well it mixed with Coke Zero, especially for the price. I've heard that 80 and 100 proof is much better, particularly the 100 proof. Any opinions from VN?IMG_20191211_210233.jpg

As soon as I tasted it, I immediately tasted Beam whiskey. If I had to guess, the mashbill is very similar. Just doesn't work for me.

Maybe I only had the regular bottle as I only paid about $40 for it because I wanted to try it.

Managed to get a bottle of Buffalo Trace which I have not seen around here in a while. Guy in front of me had a bottle of Weller Special Reserve which from the looks of it had been held back for him. My FIL said he saw a handle of Weller at the downtown liquor store for over $100.

buffalo trace >>>> special reserve

I just thought it odd because the last time I was in there a guy asked about Weller and the owner said they never get it. He also had a handle of Buffalo Trace which I also didn’t see on the shelves. But he bought $400 worth of stuff so I’m sure that comes with perks.

What other stuff was he buying. The people I know who get preferential treatment buy the very expensive bottles of wine

70 and 100 proof technically are both liqueurs because of the amount of sugar they contain
The 80 proof is labeled as a whiskey and is less sweet and is my preference

Thanks sourmash, my whiskey knowledge has never gone much beyond Daniels or Dickel. I'm more of a beer drinker, but I keep an open mind (and glass).

Evan Williams Single Barrel is a very underrated. I would think that’s my favorite bourbon under $80 would be that. However Bookers makes me mad, that I have to spend so much for that.
