Who here has played/play the greatest game on Earth?

I played defensive end and tight end from peewees throughout high school and was on some pretty decent teams. Had offers for football from a few schools(Div. I-AA: Appalachian State, ETSU, Emory & Henry...1 Div. I-A offer from Wake Forest-when they weren't very good at all) but I ultimately chose to play baseball instead. Played 1 year but my knees wouldn't allow it any longer.

Played most of my life, but I feel my real football knowledge has come from the past 10 or so years of Madden. I would consider that the greatest game since I can still play. It helps to have played some football to understand it, but it also helps to be smart and has some reasoning skills. I personally just like to drink beer, watch, and scream.

More power to ya.

more power to ya man. hope you recover 100%. the funny thing about mine was when it happened, I felt the pain, but it wasn't so bad that I could put weight on it. i ended up going back out there and played the last 2 series. I had no idea the damage that was done. I thought I just sprained it at worse. But after the game I had the MRI and sure enough I blew my knee out.

where did you have your's done? I ended up going to Baltimore at Johns Hopkins

What sucks the most about mine is I did during a practice with pro pads (helmet and shoulder pad only) no crashed into my knee. My knee just gave out and twisted inwards then outwards during a pass blocking drill. It didn't hurt that bad but, I couldn't put much weight on it to continue to practice. And I got it operated on in Northern Kentucky by Dr. Holladay. I have been told he is the best in the area. Someone has even told me that he used to operate on the Bengals for a bit but, I don't know if that is true or not.

i love when the 'you never played' card gets pulled.

i've never run for office...better not have an opinion on politics.
i've never been an ordained minister...better not have an opinion on religion.

You will be surprised when you hear a lot of people talking about football and they have no clue about schemes, the hard work you put in, etc. only players and coaches know how that feels. I think the best coaches all played football sometime during their life. However, there are some d-1 coaches that haven't played football at all i.e. Charlie Weis

Started at age 8 and played through HS where Heath Shuler is from. Lost less than 10 games during the whole time. Played on a State Champion in HS. Went 32-5 over 3 years with four of the losses coming to teams that won state championships.... @400 students we played in the 600-900 student class 2A.

big deal. they're not working any harder than anybody else who has been successful. if it was easy they wouldn't call it work.

I thought Charlie Weis played HS ball. I know he didn't play college ball, but I never thought that he never played at all.

I don't mean to be rude or anything, but if you learned more about the game of football by playing a video game than you did playing the actual game for "most of your life", you had some pretty crappy coaches.

You don't know what you don't know.

You can know schemes and all sorts of things from watching and being a fan of the game... but you really can't understand all that it takes to make it work. You can recognize a team that has "gelled"... but you don't know how it feels unless you've been there. You don't know how giving or taking a big hit feels unless you've done it. Unless you've looked across at a team mate with blood streaming down your faces without having even a hint of a notion about quitting... you DON'T know.

Unless you've dealt with the frustration and pain of playing poorly and losing a game... you really can't come close to empathizing with Jon Crompton... and none of us has experienced it on the level he has.

ok you are going in a completly different direction with this arguement. I'm just saying in my opinion people who have played football understand the game better than someone who gets all their ideas of good plays, good players, good/bad coach decisions, etc than someone who gets their ideas from a video game or from watching a little league game as a parent. I'm not saying that all people who play football should coach or understand football just there is a larger number of people who play the game understand it better than the number of people who haven't played the game. And this has no reflection on anything else in the world.

I agree with that.

So what aspect are you trying to hit on here? The physical hard work that is needed to play the sport or knowing the game and understanding schemes enough to comment on them?

I get your meaning but it isn't always neccessary to have played the game to understand it,but it does help.

Kind of both. I was just seeing some comments being made on this board and on rivals and I was just wondering is some of the posters were making these comments for what I thought was stupid because they never played football. I'm not saying if you have never played football you shouldn't post on a football forum site. People have the right to comment on something if they make a legitimate statement or not. I was just seeing if the people that were making ludacris statements had any background knowledge of what they were talking about.

Lighten up it was a joke. I played at ORHS with Jerry Colquitt, Mike Caldwell, Kwayu Graham. We were pretty good.

And I understand this as well. There are exceptions to every trend. That was what I was trying to hit on with the Charlie Weis example. I guess I chose a bad example.

this post is about being on a team, not playing football. you don't even have had to played a sport to know what it's like to be on a team.

You can also play your whole life and know nothing about the game except what a coach told you to do. A lot of football players know very little about the game. Just because you played doesn't mean you can coach.
