Who is SEC POY?

As good as Sampson was this year, I think our record is probably still 10-2 without him. The defense carried the team this year. We lose 5 or maybe even 6 games this year with an average defense.

I'm not sure we've had a season in a long time where no individual player stands out. There probably isn't a more dynamic player in the SEC right this second than LaNorris Sellers, but the last 5 games don't make a season. Ryan Williams had kind of under-the-radar had less of a season than you might think. If it wasn't for the UGA performance, I honestly don't think all that many people would be talking about him. 37% of his receiving yards came in 2 games (Western Kentucky and UGA). He didn't do much of anything at all the last 5 games of the season.

I'd probably give it to Dart. He didn't have a year that leaps off the page, but he was the most efficient QB in the conference and didn't turn it over much. Sampson is right there too.

Now that I look at the stats, it is astonishing how much Jalen Milroe regressed this year. He really only played well in 3 games (Wisconsin, UGA, LSU) and was somewhere between OK and terrible in all the others. I thought he had a particularly bad game against us.
You must not have watched the games. There is no way we are 10-2 without Sampson. Nico usually averaged maybe 1 TD a game. Sampson is our best offensive player haves down.

It's not a knock on Sampson, and of course he is our best offensive player. It's more that RB is probably the most replaceable position on the field.

Beck
Dart
Sampson
Other?

We have seen this movie many times before. Sampson will not be chosen and Tennessee will get screwed once again. If I’m wrong, I’ll eat this biscuit in front of me. I might just go ahead and eat it now.

Gotta be Sampson. Dart has only about 100 more yards than Nussmeier and Beck has more TD. But Beck also has those atrocious 3 int games. Sampson had a few fumbles but he never did anything to directly cause a loss for his team this season. He was actually the reason the offense scored any points for the majority of the conference season. You watch though, they will give it to Milroe since he had 20 rushing TD as a QB. Just get ready for that.
Beck, Milroe, Dart, Ewers, these guys were up and down all season.

Sampson POY,
Williams bama WR Rookie of the year

I would give it to Lagway over Williams. Once he took over the starting job Florida looked like a completely different team. If he wasn’t injured vs Georgia then Florida probably wins that game.

Sampson the touchdown machine, conference will meddle in the vote and Texas will corrupt the vote bigger than a Philly precinct at the union hall, so probably a young Gump in the mix

Have to go with Sampson, despite the fumbles. He hardly played the second half early in the year. Could have had 2000 yds rushing...well maybe 1800.

Y’all are high on something if you think Sellers and Pavia legitimately should win POY. I’m not even going to entertain that discussion 😂

That's fine. But why participate in a discussion if you are stuck on absolutes? This is multiple times you've chimed in that nobody is eligible if their team isn't xx successful. So why even post?

A player can absolutely be worthy of discussion if they have a transcendent year on a bad team. To deny that is to suggest we ignore the Mike Trouts of the sporting world.

Open your mind a little. Pavia was an amazing player that made really bad team decent. A comptetive Vandy team was able to inject uncertainty into the SEC scoreboard every week this season. That was because of Pavia. Without him, Vandy probably goes winless in the sec this year.

my vote would be for Sampson. But I disagree we cant consider someone whose team only wins 6 games

My mind is completely open. In what world does a QB throwing for the 11th most yards in the league get him deserving of SEC POY. That isn’t transcendent. That’s just average QB play. There are 16 teams in the conference and you can’t even crack the top 10? Nico had better numbers than him and Nico didn’t really start hitting his stride until the 8th game of the season. There are probably 9 or 10 guys I would vote for ahead of Pavia. People want to make him out to be greater than he is all because he beat the worst Alabama team we’ve seen in several years. Like I said, it’s not even a discussion for me.

And for you to mention Mike Trout and Diego Pavia in the same sentence is just wrong. Mike Trout was the best player in all of baseball before the injuries starting happening. People don’t just happen to win 3 AL MVPs and 7 top 2 finishes out of 8 seasons in the AL MVP voting. Pavia will NEVER be anything close to what Mike Trout is/was for the sport of baseball.

Trout plays for a horrible Angels organization that wasted the best years of his career.

Maybe you need to dive a little deeper into how important Sampson is. Take a look at this and you tell me if we win 10 without him and he is just easily replaceable.

Pavia didn’t have a transcendent year. Was he good? Sure. But not SECPOTY good.
