Kevin Stallings is a much better coach than anyone on that list. Look at what he does with less than stellar talent, he outcoaches Bruce and JC everytime they match up. I would take Stallings over Bruce anyday of the week and I think alot of schools in the country would do the same.

"recruiting aside"??? that's all Calipari does. He is the most overrated floor coach in the country. He is an insane recruiter, and that's pretty much his bread and butter, but if you give everyone in the SEC the same players, he would be outcoached by half of the them

stallings is very underrated. he is a great floor coach. pearl draws up the best gameplans. his scouting is outstanding. All JC can do is recruit.

as for all-round coach? I give the nod to Pearl.

so pearl hasnt been past the sweet 16 we all know, but i am excited for our basketball future at UT. look at how he has done with no legit nba players. i think next years recruiting class could be one of the best ever at UT. i know bruce is the coach i want on the hill. as far as x's and o's, jc cant hold his clipboard.

Asking who the best college coach is aside from recruiting is like asking which is the best bicycle, aside from the front wheel.

No it's really not.

Yes, it really is.

Dude, I seriously don't have some evil master plan behind all of this, so take off your tinfoil hat and calm down. I only left recruiting out because I didn't want this thread to devolve in to a "calapari is a cheater"/"no he's not" flame war.

Fine. With recruiting included, it is Calipari. With recruiting not included, the question is irrelevant.

Part of being a great coach at the college level IS being a great recruiter. You can have the best coach on the planet, but with no talent to develop, you still won't win championships in college ball.

Pearl draws up great gameplans? What does he do? Draw them up and then throw them away? Did you see the USC, Georgia, Depaul, LSU, and Vandy games just to name a few? What kind of gameplan did we have in those games, play like we don't really care?

I don't know what your agenda is. It's a simple poll question. If you think it's dumb, don't vote. Really, it's that easy.

It is dumb to take one of the biggest and most important job descriptions away so that it might assist how you feel in a vote.

Either way, Cotton is correct. With recruitng Cal is the better coach, without recruiting it doesn't matter. Without the recruitment part it's moot point.

Now I understand that at the DIII level recruiting is a non-factor. But at this level, it's pretty dang important.

I understand. You agree with cotton. Good, then this thread isn't for you. This is the kind of derailing BS that gets old. Why do you feel the need to come in here and argue over a simple question? Do you know how simple it is? It's so simple that 70 other people were able to answer without throwing a giant hissy fit. Move on man.

Lofton, just tell him you dont like Bruce Pearl so he can get to the heart of the matter. Lets get this over with.

Hissy fit? Come on man.

You tried to set this up so that your boy Bruce could win hands down.

Taking recruiting out of the equation is just crazy.

By the way I cast my vote long before I agreed with Cotton.

If he hasn't figured it out yet, he probably has deeper issues than what we can see on the surface here.

Really? Is that why 11 people have voted for stallings and over 30 have voted for calapari? I didn't try to do anything besides ask a question.

Come on man.

We both know better than that.

you can't use that as an excuse when you've had the job for 11 seasons.

also, what is the head-to-head record between the three coaches? I'm guessing Bruce and Stallings are about even, maybe Bruce has a slight lead. And I think Cal has a slight lead against Bruce, 3-2 or so.

which is better than what we were saying under the previous 4 coaches.

but hey, if we can convince Tom Izzo or Jamie Dixon to wear orange, I'd love it.

So we only have three options?

Recruiting at Vanderbilt and recruiting at Tennessee, Kentucky and the rest of the SEC is different. Coaching at Vandy is a different animal.

If you had included my choice ("this is a ridiculously stupid question") as one of the options in the poll, I would have voted and moved on. Since you didn't include my choice, I felt like it was important to comment in the thread and argue in favor of it.

Maybe next fall, you can start a thread asking something like, "If you set aside passing, who's the best quarterback in college football?" That would be equally valuable.
