Who is to blame for the past 5 years?

Who do you blame for the past 5 years of intensive Volunteer humbling? It has been tough and sickening to watch our beloved Vols go down from perennial powerhouse to Vandy East. I personally blame Fulmer and the big guys who did not boot him after 05. The big boosters and AD then hired 2 blithering morons to coach us! So, I blame THE AD AND BOOSTERS ABOVE ALL. Yes,we have had bad luck. Yes, Fulmer was great in 95-04. Yes,the SEC landscape has changed not in our favor. But none of this is any excuse! It was plain that Fulmer was out of his league against Saban,Spurrier, and Miles! I could see. I admire Phil. I admire the players. I DO NOT ADMIRE THE PAST AD AND BOOSTERS WHO HAVE DESTROYED MY VOLS FOR 5 GRUELING YEARS! So,VolNation, to whom do you place the blame for our shameful ineptitude over this span? I DO NOT wanna see players names! We had t4he players to compete THIS YEAR! IT HAS BEEN COACHING! NOT THE PLAYERS! GO VOLS!

Cheek, Hamilton, and Martin in that order.

If I was a potiential minority recruit and saw this I would have serious cocerns about some members of the fan base. I know you think it is cute, but this kind of stereotyping is insidious in its nature. I am sure you had no ill intent, I am just humbly suggesting that this is not cool.

Dude,

If you were a minority recruit you wouldn't go to any SEC school then. Do a youtube search for "Bama fan goes crazy".
Be prepared to file a lawsuit against university of bammer.

If Fulmer simply does his job of coaching and recruiting instead of becoming a politician more concerned about his legacy and job security, he is still coaching here.

Instead, he decided he was a CEO instead of a coach.

He decided to install Hamilton as AD.

He decided that 8 wins was enough at TN and his passing Neyland was more important than keeping up with the changing landscape of the SEC.

To a much lesser extent, you can blame David Cutcliffe. This program started sliding as soon as he left for Ole Miss. Fulmer's success and failure can be directly tied to whether he was on staff or not.

Of course, it was incumbent on Fulmer to hire a competent replacement, which he failed to do.

Give that man a cigar! This is it.

"Ricky's Rant"

Watch the linked video. I'm sure these folks are the cream of the crop in Alabama.

Roll Tide

I don't blame Kiffin other than just being a general douche, but he sure does resemble the Unabomber on the sidelines today in the Sun Bowl.

Hamilton, Fulmer (his stubborness and complacency), Cheek, Kiffin (and staff), the NCAA (snooping around which took forever and much lingering), losing countless players to transfer/jail, and finally Dooley.

Been a tough while for us Vol fans but I would put the blame on Hamilton and Fulmer the most. They started this train wreck long ago. This was in the works way before the "5 years" you speak of.

Without reading on, I think you sum it up pretty well. I thought this was going to be a "bring back Fulmer" thread. After he won the title, I don't think he had that fire any more.

I think of Dooley more as a scapegoat. Maybe my opinion will change over time, though.

Not concerned about any other school except my university, UT. I know all fan bases have all kinds of fans with different attitudes and history and culture. I would just like us to be sensitive to how we use our words and images.

It's Fulmer's fault Hamilton hired a scumbag who ran off a phenomenal quarterback, it's Fulmer's fault said scumbag ran off in the middle of the night begging recruits to leave school, it's Fulmer's fault the next coach hired had every good intention imaginable, but was not very good at making them reality. It's Fulmer's fault that the last coach hired a DC that had a scheme too complex and no athletes to run it. Yeah, that's brilliant. That's honestly like blaming Bush for the state of the country today. Sigh.

Dooley took us to depths we never thought possible when we fired Fulmer.

In order of importance
1. Leadership (AD, Academic side, so called big money boosters)
2. Fulmer 2005 on
3. Kiffin
4. Dooley

I have ZERO to add to this, other than to say that an Alabama guy I know told me last night that they call Phil "Fatlock" (instead of Matlock) for turning them in to the NCAA. I have to admit, I laughed

This is ridiculous. Fulmer wasn't even fully responsible for 2008 - Hambone screwed that up too.

Any list that doesn't have Hambone first and Kiffin second has either an agenda behind it or is written by a denizen of Idiocracy.

Just pointing out the obvious! If there were more on us than a leather jacket then the NCdoubleaholes would have found it. When we get back up and Saban is no longer in the picture, they're gonna be pointing out more shiz again. Probably because they are gonna get busted cheating like always. The NCdoubleaholes let them get away with it for so long because they make so much money off of all the bandwagon fans! When that ends, so do they.
