I get what you are saying, but let's say he wins 8 and loses the bowl game in year three. Does that qualify as winning big or do we tear it apart and start this process all over again?
I agree...however IMO he doesn't have to win a SEC championship or even compete in one by year 3. I think if he can get us to 9 wins by year 3 he's still golden.
I say 7 wins next year (including bowl) and 9 wins in year 3 (including bowl). Now year 4 he better be competing for a SEC Championship and with this amazing recruiting class most of them will be RS Sophomores or Juniors he should be. 10 wins year 4 (including bowl). We'll officially be back.
Year 5 playing in SEC Championship. 11 win season (including bowl)
I'll opt for 9 wins in the third year. I'd feel better then. Not concerned with winning SEC championships or bowl games right now, just need to get positioned to make teams worry when they walk into Neyland. Some chide others because of wanting instant gratification. It's been a long time coming already. A loss tomorrow will build a fire under the torch and pitchfork crew and this board will probably be lit up calling for his termination.
Franklin outcoached Jones... and Jones had ALOT more athletic talent to work with.
I don't like Franklin but he has done WAY more with WAY less. Jones has underachieved the talent on his roster by 1-3 losses depending on what happens at UK.
i was bored at work so i did a little research. these stats are from rivals and go from 2010-2013.
UT has signed 98 players of which 66 are still on the team. 0-5*/24-4*/35-3*/7-2*
Bama signed 100 players of which 80 are still on the team. 10-5*/43-4*/27-3*/0-2*
Vandy has only signed 9-4* players since 2010. they are loaded with 2 & 3 star guys
youve got to have players and coaches.
when talent levels are even the coach makes the difference. as much as it hurts to say see the vandy game. close to same level talent and got out coached.
got to have players to get to the elite level. take us vs. bama. tons of good/great players and we got smashed.
Given that 6-6 after consecutive losing seasons would have saved CDD I anticipate the same low standard for CBJ. .500 or better year 3 keeps his job with surrounding huge hype about "on the way back, foundation completed, etc."
IMO as long as CBJ hits 8 or 9 wins occasionally he stays on the hill as long as he wants. And a lot of people would be very pleased with that.
I don't agree with that assessment. The objective at UT is to win championships. Maybe not every year but on the years the team doesn't win it, they should at least be in the mix for it. I'm pretty sure every Vol fan feels this way. The big disconnect among fans at this time is this season and how much of it is CBJ and how much can be laid at the feet of the state of the program when CBJ took over. I know how I feel about that, and I know how you feel about that. None of it can really be known for sure. The part that really gets to me though is people clamoring for change after one year with the new staff. There is no way that makes sense. Maybe after year 2, definitely after year 3.eace2:
my objective is for UT to win championships. i'm sure that your objective is for UT to win championships. and as you said, if not winning they should still be in the mix ie competitive with their rivals. there are a lot of vol fans that feel the same way, but there are a surprising number of vol fans that are quite content to just get to a bowl game, or at the best "compete for the east" whatever that means. i can't claim to know the exact breakdown or even who is in the majority, but the large number that i see that would be content with mediocrity is surprising and alarming.
what i AM confident of, however, is that the vision of SEC football championships is not the priority of the current UT administration, nor is it the priority of the single biggest UT booster. i'm not going to list all the details here but would be happy to buy you a beer and tell the tale. unfortunately i think that winning starts at the top and that the current admin is a major impediment to UT climbing back to where you and i want them to be.
it may be that UT "caught lightning in a bottle" with CBJ and he is wildly successful, in spite of the handicaps he faces because of the administration -- i certainly hope so.

Hope you were drunk when you wrote this one. I'll admit I was pretty PO after watching that game too. I was wishing it wasn't 10 am on Sunday morning here so I could drink. Thought we looked like a FCS school.
