who was the worst president ever?

Some of y'all are so far out in Wackoland, I can't even believe what my eyeballs have seen in this thread. It's like you just say the most off-the-wall, bizarre thing you can think and back it up with one, maybe two examples, and think that solidifies your assertion as fact. The Clinton/Lincoln/FDR folks should be typing dissertations itt, because nothing that happened in reality could ever make any sane person think any of those three the worst POTUS of all time, except a borderline, gsvol-like agenda.

The fact that some of you claim to be in academia makes me understand why our country is falling behind in education.

It's all about what criterion you judge by. My yardstick is liberty. What is yours?

I don't think anybody could ever top FDR or Obama.

:)

I'd like to hear some specifics about that President Obama has done that makes him one of the worst presidents ever. He kept us out of a depression and Bin Laden was captured under his watch. What has he done to deserve such ire from the right?

He didn't keep us out of a depression, he has prolonged the recession (the real one, not the economics definition one) and he didn't capture bin laden, he killed him.

His complete disregard for the Constitution, which is a characterisitic he shares with every president of the last 100+ years.

He foisted Obamacare upon us. He signed an extension of the Patriot Act. He signed the National Defense Authorization Act. He has ballooned the national debt. He has continued costly, pointless wars.

Barack Obama isn't the worse president in U.S. history, but he's pushing for a top 10 spot.

Best: Clinton
Worst: Tie between Carter and W Bush.

(In my lifetime, I am no historian and can only comment on the modern era)

If that's the case then W should vault right to the top of your list.

I must have missed when W. deported a US Congressman because he disagreed with his viewpoints as King Lincoln did. Or where W. imprisoned ten thousand Northerners who disagreed with him without charging them with a single crime. Yes, W. was a bad president, but Lincoln was the worst this nation has ever seen.

I would say either Andrew Johnson, Herbert Hoover, or Warren G Harding

Those guys are polar opposites*. Warren G Harding was laissez faire (and awesome, his policy led history to forget about the great crash of 1920, because he managed it so well). Herbert Hoover was by far and away the biggest spender to that point. He is labeled a "do-nothing" president but nothing could be further from the truth. His yearly deficit spending was like 4.1% of GDP. To put that in perspective, W's was like 3.6% and FDR's was like 4.6%.

So I'm guessing you are a moderate?

*How Harding and Hoover are treated today is one of the biggest lies in American history. The lie is necessary to preserve Keynesian ideology.

FDR's internment camps alone are reason to include him in the discussion.

If you are trying to be the designated poster for "democrats are dumb" cartoons, you are going to have to step up your game. That spot is taken by GS and he posts cartoons in a flurry.

FDR.

Dude was fighting the Nazi's for trying to destroy a race, while he decided to throw a race in a interment camp to encourage patriotism.

Also, add Cleveland for passing the Dawes Act, probably the worst law ever passed in American history (actually, make that all Indian related acts in the late 1800's).

He is the only president to ever pay off the national debt. IMO, that alone should keep him off the list of worst presidents.

Jackson did some really bad things, but he did some awesome things. I like him because he wasn't bought and sold. The things he did, he did them because he believed in them. He tried to commit political suicide by fighting the central bank, and he won!
