Who will replace Urban at UF? (Merged) (Fulmer to Florida)

The last 2-3 recruiting cycles are proof that recruiting kids to Miami isn't as easy as you think.

You have no idea, proof or anything tangible to suggest that Gruden could recruit kids to what is now at bet a mediocre Miami program.

Pretty stupid response.

Jon Gruden is as charasmatic a football coach as you will ever meet, he would kill in the living room. Kids these days are eyeing the NFL more than ever, he only has a Super Bowl to his name, which he attained coaching a team based in Florida.

Didn't Miami have the number one recruiting class just a few years back? In 2008 they had the number one class according to ESPN, in 2009 they had the number 7 rated class. Not chopped liver by any means.

If Gruden took over a college program, they would be on the fast track to elite status.

I have heard it reported that they have super nice facilities thanks to the Nike owner. I'm sure there are other schools who would argue for the "best" tag though.

Phil Knight is the only reason tha Oregon is relevant, I know they have nice facilities but I'm sure there are other schools that could stake to that claim.

Jesus Christ Billy...coach speak...he is committed to Mississippi State until the ink drys, that or they didn't offer him. Simple as that.

Florida without question is a top 5 job in college football, arguably the best job in all of college football.

Mississippi State on the other hand has the lowest athletic budget of any SEC school ( Vandy? ). Doesn't hold a candle to the furtile recruiting grounds that Florida has.

They offer, he leaves.

Interesting. So when was the last time Gruden sat in a living room of a recruit?

His wife wears the pants in the family and she is very very very happy where they are. Of course he will get offered but he will turn it down.

Yeah, true. But that's just such an obvious and BORING choice. I thought everything involved with Florida's football coach had to be chocked full of drama and intrigue.

I say y'all hire Whittingham after turning Mullen down.

I just can't see Whittingham jumping ship now, of all times. In years past, sure. But now he's about to be head coach at a BCS school, and all he had to do was stay put.

Does it matter?

Miami won't struggle to get kids to come play there, if Randy Shannon can pull the following classes-2007 #9, 2008 #1, 2009 #7, 2010 # 13. If he can do that then Jon Gruden can too.

Have you ever heard that man talk? Like I said, he is as charasmatic a coach as you will ever see. He also has all the NFL experience that kids go crazy for these days. I have 100% faith that he would kiil it at the college level.

All speculation regarding Gruden on your part....and my post is stupid. Got it. :good!:

Gruden's Super Bowl ring came with Dungy's players, and he got run out of Tampa once TD's guys went elsewhere....but he's got a GREAT personality!!

I'm not saying Gruden wouldn't be successful, I just don't think it would be the sure fire lock some of you are making it out to be....especially at a place like UMiami.

With Dungy's players? It's the NFL. He didn't recruit those players. Weak argument.

WHen you say at a place like Miami, are just being bias or do you truly believe that? Cause Miami can get the top recruits just as well as anyone.

You said look at the past 2-3 recruiting cycles, hell, go back to 2007. They are top 10 every year besides last year when they where an awful #13. Number #1 in 2008.

If a hack like Randy Shannon can do that, I beleive that Gruden ( and the very good staff that he would assemble ) would do very well too.

Miami isn't as a bad a school as you might want to think.

If you replace Gruden with Kiffin, I'd swear we traveled back in time to VolNation circa February 2009.

Please...Kiffin's credentials in the NFL are nothing compared to Gruden. It isn't even close.

You can think that Gruden would do bad but you have nothing but a biased opinion as to why he would.

Miami's past recruiting classes prove that they are still relevant and can get top recruits. A name like Gruden will have those kids flocking to south beach.

Anyway, he sin't going to be the coach there or at Florida, it's a moot point.

He is an NFL coach.

Did the kid sign? And which school?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Too early to sign. He wasn't an EE. :)

I'm just joking around though. I don't really reside on one side of the other in regards to Gruden's ability to recruit. I think both sides have made valid points. I do think his name recognition from MNF would help him with recruiting though, but I have no clue if he'd have the necessary passion for recruiting.

I don't think it will matter if he can recruit. I think Gruden will turn any and all college jobs down but continue to throw his name out there so he stays "hot" for when he decides he wants to return to coaching in the NFL.

Well......lets start with the fact he hasnt coached in the college ranks since 1991. If you thought the game had passed by Fulmer, its left Gruden looking thru dust. 20 years since he's sat in a room talking with a kid. And that's who they want to lead them?? Might as well take Zook back.

And how about his record. 95-81. whoop wee. Thats .540. A SB win......the first year at TB. After that 7-9, 5-11, 11-5 (yeah), 4-12, 9-7, 9-7. Not impressive.

Take him, Florida. Pleeeeaaaase take him.
