Who will replace Urban at UF? (Merged) (Fulmer to Florida)

Yeah, true. But that's just such an obvious and BORING choice. I thought everything involved with Florida's football coach had to be chocked full of drama and intrigue.

I say y'all hire Whittingham after turning Mullen down.

Yeah, it's the obvious choice for the short term. We really don't know how Mullen will pan out over time, but from a continuity standpoint he's the sensible choice.

I'd also love to see Mullen develop Burton and Driskel in that offense.

Can't argue there....Mullen is the logical choice...But does he want the job is the big qustion?

Considering he's coaching at the SEC's armpit of member schools, if I'm Mullen I'd definitely pick up the phone if Jeremy Foley called. He'd be a fool not to listen.

Mullen, stay at MSU. Florida's good.

If Mullen is not UF's next coach, then Foley somehow convinces Peterson or Patterson to come to UF. Both are long shots imo, but I'm sure Foley will contact them to gauge interest.

Will they give Gruden a call?

Think about this...a man who is used to Tampa and now travels from big city to big city. Do you really think he would turn down Miami, an incredible city with all types of attractions, to coach in Gainesville? I understand from a football standpoint that the football program is much better off in Gainesville. However, he's not an idiot. He knows he would pull recruits with his ties to the NFL. Look at the recruits that jumped on the Lane train. Gruden has 10 times the credibility that Kiffin had.

I just don't see this happening. I would remove Gruden from the picture altogether.

As for all of the supposed usual suspects, if I hear John Gruden's name again I swear I'm gonna dropkick a baby kitten into rush hour traffic. I was looking through the yellow pages to find an air conditioner repair guy, and you know whose name came up? John Gruden. I dropped off my dry cleaning this morning and John Gruden handed me a claim ticket. My wife went to get her bi-weekly manicure, and she had to reschedule because her normal technician was busy training John Gruden. Is there a job opening this man is NOT interested in?

To summarize my random points, he could go to South Central Louisiana State University and recruit water boys all day. He doesn't need the "Florida" pull and he knows that. He wouldn't pass up Miami for Gainesville.

Urban was already getting booed this year during several games. I don't remember the one game game but they booed the hell out of them during one drive. Will the next coach want to replace the guy who couldn't make that bandwagon fan base happy with two NC under his belt? Just a thought, coach may ask himself do i want to be the guy that replaces the guy...But then again I really don't care....GO VOLS!!!

And you know this because....

I just don't think he would make a move like that. Move from a big city to a 'hick' town in north Florida? I don't mean to offend you by saying that, but it's not the town you expect to see when you think of Florida. He has a job that he loves apparently. He's on national television every monday during football season without the stress of winning or losing each week.

In your defense, he may like the country. He may have a secret love for Gainesville. I just don't think it's likely.

Dan Mullen will be the next head coach at Florida. That is not good news for us. It's obvious he was the offensive guru after he left, not Meyer.

No offense taken. Florida is one of the few states that gets more southern the further north you go. Gainesville will never be mistaken for South Beach.

I just don't think Gruden is a college coach. I also think if Gruden WAS interested in either job, and UF and Miami got into a bidding war, UF could pay at least 3x what UM could.

Saban left South Beach to go to Tuscaloosa. I can't see why it would be so far fetched to think someone would choose UF over Miami.

How much do you think y'all will shell out annually to lure the next wunderkind?

It depends on who accepts the job.

Mullen would be poised for a very nice raise, but if by some miracle Foley convinces Patterson or Peterson to come to UF, it will likely take close to Saban/Miles loot to pull that off.

Saban wasn't killing it on MNF. He also failed in Miami. I agree that Guden doesn't seem like a college coach, but he was offered a college job in South Beach. I guess it seems more appealing to me, but I don't see Gruden choosing the sticks over the beach considering his resume.

lol, Gruden gets more internet coaching pub than he could have ever imagined.

Yep. I wish they'd hire him just to get his name out off the list. Tired of hearing it everytime there's a vacancy.

Plus his he's never been a college HC, its been YEARS since he recruited, and his record as a pro HC is mediocre (he won a SB with Dungy players his first year there).

Are you seriously trying to compare the Miami job, to the Florida job?

Given your logic, Pepperdine should contend for a BCS bowl every year...plenty of great beaches in Malibu.

I'd think a coach would want to go where he'd have the best opportunity to win, and given a choice between UF and Miami, UF wins that battle in my opinion.

UF has better facilities, more money, better fan support, plays in a championship conference, and UF (along with FSU) has had no problems recently winning recruiting battles against UM for South Florida talent.

Again, I don't think Gruden is a college guy, but I think you place too much emphasis on the locales and not enough on the resources at each school to make a coach successful. The Miami job is about on par with USF right now in the state of Florida.
