Who will replace Urban at UF? (Merged) (Fulmer to Florida)

Gruden doesn't want to flash his Super Bowl ring and say "sunny beaches"???

That's all it would take. Never imagined him to be so lazy.

you've obviously never been to Gainesville huh? I don't think Newnans (sp?) Lake is a huge selling point to recruits coming to UF. If he wanted to brag about the beaches, he wouldn't have pulled his name from the job at the U.

Petrino was supposedly Foley's second choice in 2004 if Meyer didn't take the job.

Personally I think it's Dan Mullen's job to turn down. Stoops isn't going anywhere.

I agree with this. And I think he accepts it.

BillyCostigan will shed tears.

Google map says there are beaches within an hour and a half.

Also, I never said he would take the job. You said he would be a horrible recruiter and I'm saying I think that you're wrong.

You're right, but I think he does like to be flirted with just a little.

I read an article somewhere a couple of weeks ago and Gruden was talking about how his sons are at an age where they really need a father. Evidently at least one of them plays high school football, and he's been to every high school game since he left Tampa. When he turned down Miami, he didn't just say he didn't want to coach Miami, he said he wanted to return to the booth next year. I think that says a lot. Gruden isn't going anywhere.

Besides, just in case you didn't know, his wife was a former UT cheerleader. You really think she'd let him coach at UF? :) Plus, his land in Sevierville would be vandalized on a daily basis. He can't afford that!

because football players have so much free time, they can just take off on an hour and a half trip whenever they want? And again, had he wanted to use beaches as a selling point, why did he turn down the U?

yeah, it's because he isn't coaching anywhere.
He's been out of a job for 2 years, and he's still getting paid by the Bucks as long as he doesn't have one. I think he'll be coaching again sooner or later, but I think it will be the NFL.

Because football players never have days off... they never work an eight hour day or go home to visit family and friends. You're crazy if you don't think Florida players find time to occasionally hit the beach.

And do you listen? This has nothing to do with Miami what so ever. Most schools around the country don't have beaches an hour and a half away. It's a selling point whether you want to believe it or not. I don't know why you keep bringing the Miami job up. It has nothing to do with anything.

The U might be one of the most overrated "big time" jobs in college football.

The facilities are garbage, fan support is nonexistent and they can't pay a head coach, and more importantly top notch assistant coaches, what other major programs can.

Jon Gruden isn't happening.

Chris Petersen is who I think it'll ultimately being. Though I think it'd be a decent hire, is he ready for a job as demanding as these high profile jobs are?

Agreed.

People saying Florida has high aspirations need to replace that with Miami(Fla.).

It just is not, at all, a top-tier job. Not close.

Seriously? If beaches are the selling point and Jon Gruden has already turned down Miami, then the U has a lot to do with it.

You can also ski in New England year round.

I really hope Dan Mullen doesn't leave MSU..I'm tired of seeing coaches be unloyal to their school..What has happened to the Bobby Bowdens, the Joe Paternos and the Phillip Fulmers in the coaching world? What happened to being dedicated 100% to your school/university?

I am voting for Charlie Strong. Bring him and let Kerwin Bell be OC until he moves on to D1 head coaching job.

Recruiting would be off the hook.

I vote for Charlie Strong too...I fact I hope they sign him to a 20 year contract!....With a no fire clause....Please let this happen :-D
