I think a lot of people are forgetting that our QBs still suck. Without a good QB, I don't think we are going to be a top 3 team in the east Jmho
When do Wr's play come into the deal? Do dropped passes come into account? Does having TE play come into account?
It's not just QB play.
Vols are in good position to take the Sec east by storm and surprise many... hopefully
I do think we are in good hands but saying we could finish 2nd in the east next year, to me, is a bit absurd
Is it reasonable to say we are more likely to be 5th or 6th than 2nd?At this point, with all the variables, it is just as absurd to think we will suck because we have sucked the last few years, etc.
Did you think we would beat USCe?
Did you think we would darn near beat Georgia?
Did you think think auburn would get to NC game?
Did you think Sooners would beat down Bubba?
Point being...it's "absurd" to assume Vols can't dominate the east...although doubtful,
Absurd is a strong word
If Mizzou wins the East or finishes in the top 2 then a couple of things are true. One, the rankings and ratings provided by the recruiting sites mean absolutely nothing... not "well, they're not perfect"... they mean NOTHING. Two, the solace that we are taking in Jones' recruiting ability is baseless.... since the rankings and ratings mean NOTHING. So, we all better hope they are better coaches than they showed this year.
But here is my suspicion. Mizzou will continue to follow roughly the same pattern they had in the Big 12. They'll pop up once in awhile when they have a "perfect storm" of a uniquely talented team of overachievers and upperclassmen who have been developing and getting experience in their system. Usually this will NOT result in winning the East. UF, UT, and UGA all had bad years. That will not be typical.
The only way Mizzou makes a habit out of competing for the East is if their recruiting improves significantly. They currently have two 4* commits, a bunch of 2* commits,... and they're pretty close to done. They're 12th overall in recruiting IN THE SEC and have the lowest star average in the SEC at 2.8.
Again, unless the recruiting sites really have no clue AT ALL... Mizzou does not have the talent and will not have the talent to become a perennial threat in the East.
IF... IF... they do then UT needs to offer Pinkel whatever it would take to get him to coach at UT.
Here is my prediction
1. Mizzou Pro- build upon what they have done last year
2. UGA Con- they lost their QB and some D. Pro-Richt does AMAZING job with new QB's
3. USC Con- They lost Shaw/Clowney Pro- NEVER count out Spurrier and their talent
4. Tennessee Con- lost O and D lines Pro- New blood that is talented and hungry
5. Vandy Con- they lost their head coach Con They lost recruits
6. Kentucky- no comment needed
1. UGA
2. SC
3. UT
4. Mizzou
5. Vandy
6. UK
Im guessing UF is 7 on each of your lists. Honorable mention or intentionally left off?
Smh, if a true freshman starts this year it's because he's a good player, instead of he's the only player like years past. Granted a few juco guys might start right away but we got some stud juco guys so that's not really a crutch for y'all to use
1. UGA
2. Mizz
3. USC
4. UF
5. VOLS
6. Candy
7. Kent
We need good QB play. Plus playing too many freshman to expect anything higher than 6-6, but I expect 5-7 again. Just not having high expectations anymore.
