I'm just of the opinion that you should give guys the benefit of the doubt. I think it's VERY rare that somebody truly goes in with the flat out intention of hitting another guy in the head with his helmet. As we've both acknowledged here, it's a dangerous thing to do. However, with the stakes that came with winning that game, the clear frustration of a bad turnover, the speed the game is played at, and the chaos that ensues on an INT return like that, things just sometimes happen that way.

Well as you said to orange balls we will agree to disagree. I don't think there is any excuse for that hit. If he is mad he needs to take it out while using a clean hit.

It was a cheapshot intended to knock him out of the game. He knew he had a free shot and took it and targeted his head. I guarantee you ass gets his knees taken out if that happens at the next level. He's lucky 2 UGA linemen didn't go after his knees. Kind of like the 2 Mizzou linemen that went after Fanning after he cheap shotted the Mizzou RB.

LOL at you having bought hook, line and sinker into the notion that any big hit or hard tackle is now a "cheap shot". Welcome to Roger Goodell Football everybody.

That's flat out bulls*** and you know it. Again, if guys don't want to get hit (QB's or otherwise) they are welcome to make their way to the sideline.

Yeah, a big ass lineman has a free shot and targets the Qb's head. I'm sure he wasn't meaning any harm. You're a 28 year old child that doesn't have a damn clue. Nuff said.

I know football and I know cheap shots. I've got ties older than you and I've seen more hits than you can dream of. The one today and the one I linked are cheap shots. Learn the game kid.

Uh oh. Nebraska's QB just got tackled hard. Gotta be sure to add 15 yards on. What an effing joke. I'm not talking about the one they actually flagged, I meant the one before that the announcers were wondering about.

I would think someone who grew up watching football the way it is meant to be played wouldn't be championing such a pussified version of that great game.

I'm not championing jack sh*t. I know cheap shots and you're trying to act like some bad ass behind a computer who probably never has played a down of football in your life. You clearly don't have a clue.

Players weren't nearly as big, strong and fast as they are today when those rules weren't around. Linemen weren't 300 lbs and able to run like LB'ers. Again, learn the game kid.

LOL it's not like you get brain damage from one hit. Which seems to be his thinking. But if he approves of hits like this over time the results will show.

It is like you can get brain damage from one hit. In fact a friend of mine was brain dead for 3 days before he ended up dying after a perfectly legal hit in a hs game.

But preach on gladiator.

We'll sorry about your loss. But I was Infact saying helmet to helmet hits are deadly. He was saying that since he did not get brain damage it doesn't happen.

How can it be late if the ball carrier hasn't even been tackled yet?

The intent was obvious. Just like the hit sapp laid a few years ago on an interception. So what if the play was going on. It was 15 yards away and the qb was not trying to make a play as the guy was getting tackled.

Should probably point out that helmet-to-helmet only applies when the recipient is a defenseless player. By moving toward the ball carrier Murray was no longer defenseless. Had he simply stood still Dial's hit would have been illegal.

What if the ball carrier cuts back or stops? Would Aaron Murray have stopped running so that he wouldn't have made the tackle?

This is ridiculous and you know it. There is a difference between making a block and trying to hurt a guy.

There are some borderline calls that get called that probably shouldn't. The Alabama play was a cheap shot. He targeted him 100%.

Of course he targeted him, that's what makes the players colliding possible. What hits in football aren't the results of one player targeting another? You make it sound like the players are just blowing around randomly on the breeze like that feather in Forest Gump.

Legal or not, this was intentional and dirty. Look at what happened later in the game. Remember the big Bama Nose Tackle that was out for a good portion of the second half.

That's what playing dirty will get you. You lay out a QB and then the other team will come after one of your best guys. Just like Baseball, you bean our guy and we will then come after your guy.

Playing dirty is foolish, it will only get one of your teammates hurt in the end.

Williams was not hurt on a retaliation play. A UGA lineman simply fell into his knee after being pushed down by a Bama defender.

Murray had his head down like a chump. The defensive player had a free shot at the QB and he took it. Was it a dirty play? Yeah, a little. Should Murray have had his head out of his arse while the play was still going on? Definitely.
