Who's the best non-SEC coach in the country?

I think Bill Snyder is the most underrated coach in the country, or close to it.

I'd go with Petersen, Stoops, or Bielema, though.

EDIT: Didn't see the stipulation.

Being a Big Ugly myself, I like the Wisc coach. Not alot of hype from the guy, he just goes out and gets it done. Yeah, hes in the Big 10, but his players dont get in trouble and they produce pretty good players. And they RUN THE BALL. Im not saying that he could have success in the SEC, but he has done good thing since taking over for Alvarez. People up here really like the guy and he does alot of charity work too.
Thats my opinion.

That has nothing to do with the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, etc. being much more difficult conferences.

Great. Now quit disrupting the thread with total crap. Go and create another brilliant "message board sayings" thread. The last time was a real hit.

Dude, and I mean this with lots of love to your writing (no homo). There are plenty of decaf brands of coffee that taste just as good as regular coffee.

Haha. Wasn't trying to attack you. I just don't think the teams that Boise and TCU have beaten outside their conference have anything to do with how difficult their conference is. As for you quoting my post to fade, I have absolutely no respect for him. He's brought nothing but garbage to the board since his unfortunate arrival.

Not currently coaching, but willing to leave current employment for the right job: Mike Leach and Urban.

I actually think Leach is a little overrated. He's solid, but he's not this top-tier coach everyone makes him out to be, imo.

He wouldn't even be in the same discussion as Urban Meyer with me.

Can't say I completely disagree with you about fade (sorry fade). However, I do have to ask this hypothetical question. Do you think either Gary Patterson or Chris Peterson could win as well as they have in the SEC or any other major conference? I personally think they could, regardless of what conference they are in they could win football games. JMO

I think there's a legitimate question of how they could recruit in the SEC. As far as just coaching, I think they could more than compete.

Wait, there's a catch..

He must be coaching at a place he'd consider leaving. That excludes guys like:

Stoops (Oklahoma)
Bielema (Wisconsin)
Fisher (FSU)
Kiffin (USC)
Brown (Texas)
etc

I'm going with Dabo Swinney although it's arguable whether or not he'd leave.

I think Patterson if he was to make a move, is more likely an SEC candidate. While, Peterson if he ever decides to leave is probably more suited for the Pac 10, 12, 14, 16.....).

Hmmm.. Boise has beat Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, Miami, Virginia Tech the past couple of years. TCU has beat Clemson, Virginia, Oregon State, Wisconsin among other the past couple of years. Again, not saying the have the toughest schedules week in and week out, but they have beaten some pretty good teams.

miami never played boise :ermm:

I agree with that. Patterson is a defensive guru, and that's a prerequisite for success in this league while Peterson's an offensive guy. I think Peterson might be successful, but Patterson's coaching style is more conducive.

I would be more interested in seeing Boise State join the Pac than seeing Peterson leave Boise for a Pac school. I think they could cosistently compete with Oregon and Stanford for the Pacific championship
