Who's the best non-SEC coach in the country?

That guy.. forgot about that guy even after I heard a radio interview with him on my way to work this morning. He's done a good job at USM but I think it has a lot to do with USM having the coolest college town in Mississippi. If they were an SEC school, Ole Miss and MSU wouldn't stand a chance and I'm being serious. Hattiesburg has BOOMED since Katrina and I see a LOT more Southern Miss bumper stickers than I use to. That place is cool.

Wait, there's a catch..

He must be coaching at a place he'd consider leaving. That excludes guys like:

Stoops (Oklahoma)
Bielema (Wisconsin)
Fisher (FSU)
Kiffin (USC)
Brown (Texas)
etc

I'm going with Dabo Swinney although it's arguable whether or not he'd leave.

Ron Zook or Dave Sula. :whistling: We have Dooley so who cares who is out there. And i put Zook and Sula because i think this tread is a joke.

What's the feeling throughout the Georgia fanbase about Richt nowadays?

Depends on who you talk to, and I'm not being a smartazz at all.

The delusional fans wanted him gone 2 years ago. The reasonable fans think the performance this year will determine his future. We will know alot more after the UF game.

There are a lot of good coaches out there but a coach that goes out and gets Guz Malzahn for OC and Manny Diaz for DC, or similar coordinators would be ahead of the game.

Hard to argue with Peterson being 68-5 at Boise State. That being said I would have to say Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern would be my choice. Based on the situation he came into with the shape of the program and coming in after the death of a coach. Not to mention the limitations put on his recruiting with the academic standards of that school.

How about June Jones.. Took a horrible Hawaii program to a BCS bowl and is in the process of turning SMU completley around. Went 1-11 his first year there and is something like 20-16 since. Not bad

June Jones is the absolute best at what he does with his niche, and that's taking terrible programs and getting them bowl eligible and semi-relevant. But I wouldn't call him a great coach.

Yea, Texas just doesn't have any talent.

I haven't watched Texas play so I can't comment on that but based on their results under Muschamp during his 3rd year at Texas, I'd assume there is much to be desired. If you don't think Manny is a great DC I encourage you to look at what he did at MSU and MTSU.

Check the recruiting rankings the last decade. Texas has been in the top 5 every single year. They have comparable talent with anyone. Manny may be decent, but he took a defense full of 4 and 5 stars and absolutely got smoked about as bad as possible. That's why it's pretty difficult to put him anywhere close to a guy like Kirby Smart.

I know how good their rankings are but I don't know how good their defensive line, linebackers, and defensive backs are.

Did you watch the Texas vs Oklahoma game? I'm just wondering if the 5 turnovers by Texas had anything to do with the final score. I see what you're saying and it's a fair argument but while you're thinking about his defense underperforming with a bunch or 4 and 5 stars.. I'm thinking about how he completly transformed Mississippi State's defense and made them one of the best defenses in the SEC with a bunch of 3 stars.

The thing with Kirby Smart is I give more credit to Saban than Smart for the performance of Alabama's defense. Then again, there's something to be said for working under a coach like Saban.

Yea, I watched it. Jones had over 300 yards passing at halftime and OU had 34 points, I believe. Texas was completely outclassed and outcoached.
