Why are conservatives not funny?

Can’t pick and choose when to be woke or racist when it’s convenient. Especially if you’re the one carrying the leftist battle flag on tv.

Considering this was 20 years ago during his man show days, I think it can be stated that his politics have changed since.

I don’t make the cancel culture rules. They are what they are and have no time limit according to the left.

I love the idea that someone on the left thinks conservatives are not funny when the Left has done all they could to decide what can and cannot be funny. They’re the reason when people talk about The Office or The Hangover and say “that couldn’t be made today.” The scary words hurt when an actor is acting and says them on the screen in the make believe land.

Most political humor isn't that funny. Typically, it's just people laughing at things they agree with and getting butthurt about the accuracy of jokes they don't agree with. Loads of fun.

Same could be asked why liberals suck at comedy. No current late night host is funny. Colbert, Falon, Kimmel, and Meyers are just as bad, if not worse than Gutfeld.

Those guys have all made me laugh hard. Are you saying their late night shows aren't funny to you, or they're not funny at all. Fkn Kimmel is so quick.

I think all those guys are funny, but I think they all had their jokes written for them for about 6 or 7 years bc Trump was a content machine. I think it was so easy that it really allowed a lot of their program, particularly Colbert and Myers, to completely revolve around politics and their personal views. I get that if it brings ratings, they’re going to keep doing it, but it feels like Colbert is pretty much a left wing propaganda show for CBS now. I kind of have problem with that being on 1 of the 3 major networks.

I don't watch any show that's heavy on real-world politics, so I get it. My point is just that Kimmel is funny. The fact that the writers are making it so political in the first place are the problem. Let's be clear, Kimmel is writing a small % of the jokes. I wonder how much involvement he actually has in writing at all. Seems like he would just show up and hear ideas that have already been filtered by the showrunner and say "I don't like that." or "Let's do it that way." The amount of jokes these shows have to come up with in a week is nuts.

The standards are Carson and Letterman, IMO, and we can never have that again. The magic of those shows was that they mattered because they connected us, and we don't want that anymore from TV. We don't need it. If you wanted to be a famous comedian, you had to go through Carson. That's a big part of what made Carson's show great, and we get nostalgic about that, but I'd rather live in a world* where I can watch hours of my favorite comedians' specials with the click of a button. You can't chase a large audience like they used to. It's just not there. So you go more for a niche audience, which means you aren't appealing to everybody anymore.

*and where Carson isn't so powerful he can blacklist you like he did to Joan Rivers...then Leno did that to Kimmel. What a dick.

That's kind of true for ALL comedy. You can either laugh at yourself or you can't. You're either intellectually honest or you're not.

Colbert and Kimmel are pros. I've never gotten the appeal of Jimmy Fallon. He just feels contrived to me.

I don't disagree with what you're saying. I should clarify and say the bigger problem is that the subject matter often becomes a substitute for quality. When the objective is to preach to the choir while trolling, the standards don't have to be high. I'm not saying all political humor isn't funny. If you can make something both sides laugh at, that's a high-level of comedy.

Oh but they used to be so funny. Remember Jay Leno Headlines? Those used to leave me in stitches. Biggest mistake NBC ever made was letting Leno go.

Biggest mistake NBC made was picking Leno over letterman. Letterman got political late, more so after he retired, but when he was in his prime he was hilarious.

All I ask is make fun of both sides, but late night is just propaganda. Like Norm said, they're looking for applause, not laughs.

Something to do with an old world "cure" for it involving a wooden hammer, I think.
Interesting. I used to work with an old sailor guy that told a story about the "bull-headed clap" and it being treated with a type of hammer. Seemed unbelievable (and unbelievably painful), but maybe I should rethink that? Maybe he wasn't crazy.
