Why count our losses beforehand/Believe! (Merged)

oh no the gov has crashed volnation.. everyone is wrong except the.op because u dont think like i dotherefor u r wrong n i need to take ur volnatiin rights away to make sure our football team wins...

does that sum it up????lol

We're not in the same weight class that we used to be in. We're like the heavyweight that got sick and lost 60 pounds but still has to duke it out with the other heavyweights. We're getting back, but we're not there yet.

We're simply outmatched by teams with the physical/athletic abilities. We still have the heart it takes to win a game like Oregon, Florida, UGA, SCar, Bama, but we're outmatched.

People calling a spade a spade can still be Vols fans. Notice how most fans are saying 6-6 or 7-5. That would imply that we're beating all the teams that we SHOULD beat, and maybe we'll come after a big name that thinks they're just going to roll us like the past 4-5 years.

There are always going to be people on both sides of the fence. For every guy like OP, there's 2 or 3 guys willing to jump on optimistic posters and stomp out their high hopes.

There is a solid amount of Tennessee/CFB fans who can stay grounded and take the season for what it's worth. This season is a proving ground, and it's going to be messy. Let them get their feet under them before we start talking about punching SEC rivals in the mouth like we're still late 90s/early 00s Tennessee.

We're a former heavyweight champion working our way up through the middleweights right now.

Why do so many "supposed" Vol fans make predictions that we will lose games to UF, UGA, USCjr and Missouri? I'm not one to make predictions, because frankly speaking, non of us have a crystal ball and there are so many things that could happen. Injuries, a win or a loss based on a referee's call, etc.

But when you consider that even with Dooley in charge and the Cluster-Funk defense Sal Sunseri was running, we still managed to be in the UF, UGA, USCjr, Miss St. and Missou games right until the end. We led Florida until the 4th Qtr. That's 5 games we could easily have won if we simply had not switched to a 3-4 defense. Instead of 5-7, we could have had a 11-1 or 10-2 regular season.

If all you can do is look at the last year's results and predict the same outcome, then why even both making a prediction in the first place. It doesn't take any special insight or football acumen to do that. It's also kind of cowardly, IMHO. Why? Cause you are afraid you'll be scorned and laughed at for doing otherwise.

We had less depth the year before, under Wilcox and yet had much better defensive stats. This year, going back to a 4-3, we have more talent and more depth than we've had in years....yet so many of you want to sell this team short and claim we'll lose all those games this year. WTF, over?

This is like telling your kid they'll be stupid and never amount to anything, just because they brought home a bad report card. Damn, folks. Don't talk down your team like this. The best thing you can say is that you simply don't know....cause that is the reality of it.

I approve this message. :peace2::good!:

It's not defeatism to recognize the obvious weaknesses we face preseason. No proven QB, RB, or WR on offense and a horrid defense last season.

It's always better to downplay the expectations and be pleasantly surprised than to unrealistically expect more and then want to quit if things go south suddenly.

The very ones who anticipate unrealistically are the very ones who want to throw in the towel when adversity strikes. Rather than make assumptions based on some big 'ifs', I just hope to look for signs this year of improvement and better things to come in the future.

I see this said alot...I dont buy it.

I'm probably one of the more homeristic Big Orange koolaiders on here and I've held out hope to pert near the end of every season. Long after the "realistic" ones have already "thrown in the towell". Heck...some of the those have already thrown in the towell for this year.

I think the VolNation fan base may have forgotten what a team is capable of when they believe in what they're doing. When they believe in the coaching staff. The process. When they truly care and love the team, as a whole. The family. I think we are about to see a huge difference between a team that felt defeated before they ever began, and a team that is feeding off of each others positive attitudes. INB4 same ole blah blah beginning of the year blah blah. It's different this year. The efforts in recruiting, by coaches AND players, will instill the sense of responsibility by those who talked the talk. #1 recruiting class is a fantastic place to start.

Can you imagine what a win @ Oregon would do to the confidence of this team?

If this team plays bUTch slap football for 4 whole quarters they will at least be in more games down the stretch...

Just want to see them compete until the last play is over! Good things will follow.

Like they did last yr??? They know how to play to the end. The '11 team had this issue. Not so much the '12 team.

This is actually one of the positives that CBJ inherited and doesn't have to worry about as much. These kids know what it's like to get close enough to taste the smell, and it just slipping through their fingers.

I get what the OP is saying. We were in many of the games last year that we lost. With a better head coach, def. co. why are people so quick to count these games a loss? I`m not ready to say we will win some of these games yet, but I`m not ready to concede them yet either.

So if we don't beat them or get spanked by them would u say it's not a better coaching staff?? Just wondering...

This year is a total unknown. It needs to be taken week by week. To many factors that can tank the season. Happens when theres no room for error. Perfect example...'11 after hunter went down.
