Why Doesnt Tennessee Cheat?

It is amazing, though not surprising, how little integrity this board presents. You all must be making your parents proud. I recall a certain famous player say "I want to be remembered as a good person who just happened to play football." I, for one, am glad my alma mater isn't selling its soul (again).

Have you seen the UT players cars? You honestly think UT athletes don't get extra benefits? Every major university does it. The trick is not getting caught.

Surely you realize that these kids have parents and not every kid is from a poor family.

I am a UT allum. I have been blessed with gainful employment and a progressing career for 20 years. I have three kids and have been saving a little here and there as much as possible so they can go to college.

I have already told my oldest son, who is in HS, that if he gets a scholarship (it would be academic!), I will take a chunk of the money I was saving for his school and buy him a new car. I'd drop $30K without blinking on it because he "earned" it and it's still cheaper than four years of school.

Yes, there are some poor kids on these teams. But, there's also a whole bunch of middle class family kids.

Not everything is by ill-gotten means.

Integrity. Some people have it, some people don't. Those without will always find it hard to understand why cheating is wrong. I feel that cheating is a way people and/or groups of people deal with being inadequate. When one is raised to believe that life is supposed to be "fair" then the line between integrity and cheating becomes blurry or erased..An unwillingness to accept the fact that "Hey, I/We might not be as good as them" will always keep the specter of cheating close by.

Honestly. No one seems to care these days and I cant see that the NCAA enforces anything. Everyone on the planet knows Cam Newton was paid and no repercussions. Miami? One of the dirtiest programs in the history of college football and Im just talking about recent history, no penalties. USCjr, gives players free rent....NCAA does nothing. Bama implicated in PEDs, nothing will happen. It just seem like we all we need is a middle man such as a church or a lawyer and we're home free (its pretty well known that for years ED O has funneled money to players through a local lawyer so its protected by privilege).

Now it seems like the Wild West and everyone has a Colt 45 except for us. Freeze at Ole Miss is just the latest. How he could ever get a 5 star black kid to play under the Stars and Bars is a mystery unless $$$ is involved.

Are we just not committed enough? Is it that we dont care enough about winning anymore? I miss Pearl, at least he wanted to win enough to have some illegal steaks. His only mistake was taking a pic imo.

bring back Trooper/Garner/Anyone willing and smart enough to not get caught.

Obviously Im joking to an extent, but seriously......

If we do cheat, I hope is something REALLY big. Don't do it halfway. I don't want some silly bowl ban or loss of scholarships. If we are going to cheat, make it so that WHEN we get caught, we get the death penalty. That way it's over and done, and I can move on to something else.

I do love my football, but I love my university more. I'd rather see them bulldoze Neyland Stadium into the river than find out that a NC was a fraud and deal with the humility of wearing the cheater's crown.

I want to take every advantage that is legally possible. But never cross the line. Cheating to win is not winning. Cheating to win is like peeing on yourself it feels good and warm at first, but will eventually leave you cold and full of stench and everybody can smell it.

We did "cheat" and got nothing to show for it except probation through 2015 and the loss of a great basketball coach.

Well this does bring up an interesting point. We've all heard the phrase "if your not cheating, your not winning". Unfortunately there is some level of truth to that. Many people don't want to hear that. There are a lot of programs across the country that want to win at "all cost"....and that's a fact! The SEC is no exception. Rabid fans bases and prideful "people in power" play a roll in it. I found it odd that when Kiffin and co. were here...our compliance department reported him every time he looked at someone wrong. I mean some of it was really very petty stuff. It was almost as if "certain people" in "positions" didn't want him to succeed. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending him. Personally I'm glad he's gone. The point is...if people think that the "certain coaches and programs" don't bend the rules to gain a competitive advantage....you're simply wrong. These coaches are also at universities that are willing to "look the other way" if it means staying at the top. Sure, they'll self report a minor violation here and there, but at the end of the day.....major violations??? Doubt it seriously. The fact is, college football is big business (huge business) on a lot of different levels. Personally I love the game, but I don't watch the game through "rose colored" glasses. GO VOLS!!

The phrase I've always heard is "If you're not cheating, you're not trying." There is certainly a lot of truth to it when it comes to college athletics. If you're going to be 100% clean, then you basically have no chance of being successful. You just have to hope you don't get busted.

Give me wins and I will learn to live with being dirty.

For the life of me, I can not understand why anyone with this attitude has any interest at all in collegiate athletics. Are you an allum?

If the only thing of value is the game itself, why wouldn't one watch the NFL? The players are more talented and winning is the sole and exclusive motivation of everyone involved.

Further, cheating is not winning. It's cheating. Those who cheat are basically making the statement that there is no value in winning - only value in making others believe that you won. It's kind of sad. At least if your career or similar depended on it, I might understand. But, just so you can say the team you were cheering for won? Really?

If you just like to pretend that you won, watch the tapes from 1998 and pretend they are current.

I'd love to hear your child's (and yours) explanation as to why he/she broke the law. "I tried to do it the right way, but it didn't work, that's why I held up the store at gunpoint." Same concept. Doing it right didn't work, so I'm going to accept doing it wrong.
