Why Doesnt Tennessee Cheat?

I think all this noise going around about cheating lends more credence to the idea that college players should be getting paid. I can't stand Auburn. But, what Cam did for that program was well worth the rumored 100,000 bucks. That university made so much money and garnered so much attention for going undefeated with Cam. And look, these high profile athletes are putting their careers on the line playing in college to not get paid. Yes, a college education is valuable. But to these athletes that are basically locks to the NFL, a degree means squat.

I don't like the sound of it, but these high profile athletes deserve to get paid for what they do for a program. It's hard to quantify how much a single player can make a school. And, it's harder to determine how much money and to what sport gets paid. However, I think it could have a great affect on the football environment overall. Great players would stay longer at their respective schools. High schoolers wouldn't think of the University as just an obstacle to the pros. And all this would actually put value back into the education. There would be more incentive to make good grades. Cause, if you don't qualify academically your not gonna get paid.

Plenty of students on academic scholarship get a stipend/fellowship grant which involves extra money beyond the bare minimum necessary for tuition, books, dorm lodgings and a meal plan. Often, these students are adding value to the university either through assisting in research that leads to university intellectual property or they contend for prestigious awards and postgraduate scholarships that enhance the reputation and appeal of the university amongst those who fund university research as well as tuition-paying students who want marketable degree.

I think the lack of enforcement is not so much an NCAA issue as it is an SEC issue. Mike Slive has demonstrated that he will not sacrifice a bellcow and right now we're about as far from that as you can get. Until the Vols start winning in the only sport that really matters in this conference, we're a sacrificial lamb in waiting if we caught with our hand in the cookie jar. Right now, we can't afford the risk.

I have little doubt that your sister slept with a few basketball players but we were talking about football recruiting. I also don't see how living in Knoxville gives one added insight, Are you telling me Dooley who wouldn't even put in the energy to visit and recruit Chattanooga and n. Georgia had some elaborate plan where guys were getting money and cars? So what year was this and what positions are you talking about?

Don't insult my sister because you are some hick from the woods that doesn't know any players or ever been around the program. My sister dated one ball players and had several of the star football players after her . She didn't date any of them but met her husband and got married to a fellow student. I know because I used to hang with a few players. I hung around players from 16 or 17 when my older sis went there through me going to UT and a couple years after. I know what happens first hand. Now my friend owns two clubs that players frequent. I see there cars and jewelry . If you are a Vol fan why would you want specifics? I could get someone in trouble.

Tennessee cheats as much as any other SEC team. We just haven't been doing it smartly enough lately.

Because a certain state west of us holds the crown.. LOL

GO VOLS..
GO BIG ORANGE ..

That's what I have to figure too. I also have to assume a part of our failure is that we are paying a lot of money out to people who are not coaching at UT any more.

who did your sister date?

When you get recruited to a big, fancy, D1 school like USC, UofTex, UF, Oregon, OSU, uTenn, Alabama, etc you are getting top-of-the-line treatment during your entire stay. I'm friends with a ex-DT for U of Tex and have been to a couple parties for for the players and one for a big recruiting weekend. All I can tell you is that when it comes to who pays for these events, there is a fair amount of money being thrown to make these kids feel like royalty-the escorts, drink, and free gear are only a small part of it. What goes on beyond that is really just speculation until the NCAA gets involved and decides its gone too far--and even then, I'm sure the investigations are thwarted quite heavily due to someone putting money in another persons paycheck. It can be a shady business and I'm sure it will only get worse as times goes on. But I for one am glad U of Tenn hasn't muddle it's name too heavily in regards to the darker aspects of the recruiting and on-campus living-- :crossfingers:

Honestly. No one seems to care these days and I cant see that the NCAA enforces anything. Everyone on the planet knows Cam Newton was paid and no repercussions. Miami? One of the dirtiest programs in the history of college football and Im just talking about recent history, no penalties. USCjr, gives players free rent....NCAA does nothing. Bama implicated in PEDs, nothing will happen. It just seem like we all we need is a middle man such as a church or a lawyer and we're home free (its pretty well known that for years ED O has funneled money to players through a local lawyer so its protected by privilege).

Now it seems like the Wild West and everyone has a Colt 45 except for us. Freeze at Ole Miss is just the latest. How he could ever get a 5 star black kid to play under the Stars and Bars is a mystery unless $$$ is involved.

Are we just not committed enough? Is it that we dont care enough about winning anymore? I miss Pearl, at least he wanted to win enough to have some illegal steaks. His only mistake was taking a pic imo.

bring back Trooper/Garner/Anyone willing and smart enough to not get caught.

Obviously Im joking to an extent, but seriously......

I miss Pearl also. Our basketball program actually looked like a top notch program. Even though we were only #1 for one day he still accomplished getting us to a #1 ranking. Now we're lucky to score 50 pts in a game. We should have took our lumps and kept the best basketball coach the men have ever had.

I'm convinced that yall cheat. I'm also convinced that yall are terrible at it.

I pull for Bama because of my roots when the Vols aren't in the running or playing Bama. But dude, you need to just not make noise about cheating. I am dreading the day when Saban finally "gets caught". All schools cheat to some degree, some just have more funds to cheat with.

Personal conversations with a former Basketball coach over a couple of adult beverages makes me laugh at this whole thread. It makes you wonder why there are rules to begin with.

Isn't he available at the end of the season?

I don't know. I never really understood if his penalty/probation term or whatever you call it started when it was given out or if it started whenever a school hired him.

Surely you are not opposed to sharing the year and positions that this occurred as well as how you have first hand knowledge. U and John Gruden give them a car?

As a matter of fact, I'm entirely opposed. I give that info and its a simple connect the dots. Listen, I don't agree with it. In fact, I was hugely disappointed when I was told, but I don't want UT getting dinged for it so I'm saying nothing.

Oh, and it wasn't football.

Character and the people who lacked it is what got you this mess.

Kiffin rolls Tennessee
Tennessee rolls Dooley

A minimal amount of class shown by Hamilton saves Tennessee and Dooley the hardship of having to go through the last 5 years
