Why fire your best recruiting <position> coach?

Why do people keep blaming Hinshaw for Hunters drops? A coach can only do so much when it comes to catching the ball.

It s somewhat in a coaches control. enough reps on the jug machine ? enough reps playing catch with a brick wrapped in aluminum foil ? are they getting enough contact in practice ? are they getting enough coverage in practice.

yeah some of it is up to the player ...but the coach sets the tone and lays the groundwork.

If other fundaments are bad ( route running , seperation , dealing with the press , correct hand technique ) which they were... then it would lead you to think that the coach is responsible for the drops.

This thread cracks me up. All I have been reading about is how sub par recruiting was, and now Butch was supposed to keep "the best recruiter" we had?

I understand what you are saying but the rest of the WR had no trouble catching balls. And hunter got open plenty he just couldn't make the grab some of the time. I just think he was still not 100% comfortable playing with his knee

and he was black.

now don't take that the wrong way please.

i really believe that.

Was with you, bruh, all the way up to this point.

Wasn't no coach comin up in here and firing Jay Graham. No way, no how. And it had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with the color of Jay's skin.

Otherwise, I too wondered if Butch offered Tee bc he knew he had to. Maybe CBJ has his own guy? Probably not, but maybe?

Or maybe Tee and his wife are happy in LA. She sings, he coaches Heisman Trophy candidate WRs. Good for them.

Either way, firing Hinshaw is an opportunity to upgrade. He was my fav coach but Dooley's era was a black eye and house cleaning was needed.

I like your posts. Keep it up.

WE WENT 5-7!!!!!!!! You should be happy we are hiring new ppl that can win effing football games. Dooley wasn't the only POS on the staff.

thanks man and i agree with everything you said even your disagreement

but i think BJ had to keep JG too... I don't disagree

look for another black hire IMO

there will be at least 2 black coaches on the staff

just my opinion

Was Hinshaw fired before or after the Tee offer?

I think someone convinced CBJ Tee would take the job so he let Hinshaw go. Hinshaw was let go the same day Tee was offered. I think CBJ was caught off guard by Tee declining.

I think it's interesting that Hinshaw has still not been hired at Kentucky like everyone was reporting. Has he officially been let go here or is he in limbo?

Its funny how some think they are recruiting experts. Where was your resume? Its one thing to have a rational opinion its another to think your opinion tops that of a coach.

Dooley was a coach. Some here had an opinion that switching to a new defense with an untested DC might be a problem. Now they weren't coaches and Dooley was a "coach" so we were forced to defer to his brilliance. I really like CBJ -- but to be successful or to have a chance to be successful here you have to recruit like ninjas - banshees -- gorillas, etc. Bringing in a bunch of pedestrians from Cincy I fear will not yield the desired result. I know that, the OP knows that, half the state knows that. Just fearful that Butch, Hart, and Cheek don't know that.

They either think they can coach up those two stars and beat Alabama or don't grasp the importance of having great recruiters to pull talent out of neighboring states.

yea got it

So hart is basically giving 3mil plus to UL's staff?

did you miss the "minimum" wording in the mou...mou lol

UL's?

So far we have three coaches that were not on Cincinnati's staff and will likely add a fourth. Only way I'll be disappointed is if CBJ hires Weist as the WR coach. Well I would rather have a different DC but I think CBJ may still be looking at that.

The "odd" thing is obviously he did not get his first choice. Quite frankly I don't think he wanted T and he just made the offer because of the question at his press conference.
I think BJ sabotaged the T hire.

Now I ask who is he gonna gzet that would be better, especially since Hinshaw was the recruiting coordinator.

We need all the recruiters we can get.

Thinking that CBJ sabotaged the Tee hire is only speculative...it's a biased notion. The danger in speculation is that it becomes "fact" for many people without perspective. While CBJ sabotaging the hire is not out of the realm of possibility that doesn't mean that it is true...If I saw you and your girlfriend having a spat I could speculate that you had an affair on her, what grounds did I base this off of? nothing (or very little)...this of course isnt out of the realm of possibility and I may be right but don't you think it's a little unfair of me to make a conclusion about something (including your character) without enough info...all based on the fact that I don't like you or some other reason?

My point it speculation and inferring without any real information is not "using your brain" it's an ill-advised opinion that's beyond being skeptical- it's almost vindictive.

So what I gather from this is that CBJ got Tee and his family to come across country to Knoxville only to make the fans happy, but then snubbed Tee in the end because CBJ didn't really want 2 former UT players on his staff (for some inexplicable reason), but Tee, who apparently really wanted to come back to UT went ahead and covered for CBJ when he gave his reasons for why he turned down the offer. Makes perfect sense.

New HC always means a totally new coaching staff.

He kept graham which was a smart decision because Jay has PROVEN himself to be a good coach for RB's and as a very good recruiter.

IF keith had actually done some solid research he would see that CBJ actually has brought in some really good coaches that are also known to be really good recruiters.

Saying he kept CJG or offered Tee a job because they're black is as racist as it gets IMO and it's just plain dumb.

Saying the Cinci coaches he brought in can't recruit is just as dumb.

Thinking we'll have a really good recruiting class this year is just as dumb because top recruits start getting to know top coaches when they're SOPHS in high school alot of the time so it DOES take time to build a really good relationship with the top recruits you want to reel in.

Furthermore, if you think we're going to have a really good season the 1st year in the SEC and when we also have to travel to oregon to play them next season they you're also not being very realistic.

The ONLY real FACT we know right now is that CBJ most certainly WILL be our HC for at least the next 3 or 4 years so stop crying like babies and UNITE and support our new coaching staff because that's ALL you can do except piss and moan and help HURT our recruiting efforts.

Some people really need to stop drinking and grow up!

You have no idea how good or bad this staff is. When Hinshaw was hired, everyone hated it. You have no more insight into any of these guys, or the old ones, than anyone else on here.

I think we can still have a good class. Dooley and co., despite all the hate, did a good job laying the groundwork for a number of highly recruited players. Guys like Green, North, etc are interested in UT because of UT. Even though it's a longshot, we could still pull a guy like Bell who is a UT fan.

Wouldn't be dissimilar to Dooley pulling in Stone, Hunter, and Rogers.

Here's the deal. When there is a head coaching change "at any school" there is usually a lot if not whole sale changes in assistant coaches. This is done for various reasons. 1. Head coaches don't and "won't" deal with the "well we've always done it like this" attitude, 2. The new coach is going to surround himself with people that he knows and trusts on all levels (coaching styles/philosophies etc.), and 3. It's hard for everyone to "buy in" to changes and new direction when there are hold overs from previous staffs. These points may seem strange to some, but head coaching changes usually mean "whole sale changes" within the coaching staff.
