Why is everyone so excited about the game at Bristol?

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm honestly curious. I completely understand for Virginia Vols fans and those in the Tri Cities area, now the game is closer and more accessible. But from the universal acclaim the scheduling of this game has received, you'd think 100% of CFB fans were also NASCAR fans.

I've never watched or been to a NASCAR race so I'm assuming there is some sort of significance that is escaping me and I'm honestly wanting to know what that is, since everyone else seems to "get it.":hi:

More good publicity for us!!! This being at a neutral site and at such a big venue, will give us positive attention and it will sell the "T" brand. In addition to that, it will be a prime time t.v. game.

agree with the OP. I just can't see how the kickoff game for 2016, with a record-breaking crowd and wall-to-wall ESPN coverage, could help at all. Let's just scrap the idea

You should scratch that part of your post, since that's not what I said at all lol

If we are looking like crap in Butch's fourth year with the caliber of recruits that he is reeling in, then he is obviously not the guy. But win or lose, the amount of exposure from this event is simply priceless. BTW, Frank Beamer may not even be the coach for VA Tech in 2016. He always has a solid team but the program seems to be on the decline imo.

6-1 and ranked in the Top 25. 10-wins or more 8 of the last 9 years.

I don't compute.

I just think the VA Tech program under Beamer has seen it's hay day. Over the past few years Miami, Florida State, and Clemson have surpassed them. It is not really a knock but just reality.

I get that they were 7-6 last year, but even including that year's W/L record Va Tech is 91-30 since 2004 with every year registering 10 or more wins aside from last year. They're currently 6-1 this year. If that's decline, we're absolutely abysmal.

Yes we are but better days are ahead.

Yes I'm an utter failure at life, clearly identifiable due to my initial lack of understanding surrounding the hype of the Battle of Bristol. I should just mail it in and put the .45 in my mouth. :loco:

Neyland would fit inside of it. It holds 160k people. We will shatter any attendace records in existence for a football game. We will gets tons of national publicity. We can use it as a recruiting tool. Umm its against Tech which is kind of a rival even though we never play them..

:good!:

All my Na$car friends are talking about it.

They won't go, but they are talking about it. They'll probably watch it though.

Some people get took in by gimmicks and this is what is happening. Very low payout for UT....no wonder the other AD's wouldn't do it if all was offered was the $4 million I am reading about.

Wonder if they are excited Hart is also in advanced discussions to pimp us out to six other cities? Good Lord! We've gone to the dogs.

no, it was added on purpose

There needs to be a sarcasm language on a computer. This game will also make a ton of money for the school. at least 4 mil is all but certain with this game alone. Add the fact that its never been done before ever

VT May have a decent record SO FAR this year, but they really haven't played anyone except Bama...their one loss. Blew out Western Carolina, barely beat East Carolina (by 5), Marshall in OT, GT by a TD, UNC (on the rebuild) and Pitt (not ACC ready) by 10. They dodge Clemson and Florida State this year, next three games are Duke (COACH CUT!!), Boston College, and Miami. Based off the level of play they've shown, they could lose all three of those. Maryland QB will be back vs VT, so that's not a gimme. Then they finish with rivalry game at UVA, who only lost by 3 at Lane Stadium last year when they were 4-8...they're a little better this year and at home so who knows. VT could finish 7-5 again this year. EASILY. Lose a bowl and they're 7-6 again this year. They have not played deserving of their current record.

I don't get it either. This is an injury fest waiting to happen. This will be a bad field for football.

In b4 Allerbubba announces their annual game against Auburn will be played at Talledega.

Honestly, I don't think there can be a football game at any NASCAR track other than BMS. The reason is because BMS is the smallest track in NASCAR. A lot of the other tracks are way too big, and it would be too difficult to watch a football game.

Just a unique venue to watch a game in. Plus the potential of the crowd size.

I'm not a Nascar fan, but something about Tennessee playing in the largest football game ever (by attendance) has its appeal to me. I understand why some people don't want to go, but you can rest assured I will be there.
