Why is everyone so excited about the game at Bristol?

2016 will be our run at the National Championship. BMS and CFB are just setting the stage. It will go down as the greatest game, in the greates venue, with the greatest crowd, of the greatest season, for the greatest team in history.

Too much? I think not.

Some people have legit issues with crowds, PTSD/anxiety etc. I think it's more common than people think but still vast minority.

That's very true and I don't begrudge anyone who genuinely has those issues not to go. However my point was, if you can deal with 102,000 at Neyland you can deal with 160,000 at Bristol.

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm honestly curious. I completely understand for Virginia Vols fans and those in the Tri Cities area, now the game is closer and more accessible. But from the universal acclaim the scheduling of this game has received, you'd think 100% of CFB fans were also NASCAR fans.

I've never watched or been to a NASCAR race so I'm assuming there is some sort of significance that is escaping me and I'm honestly wanting to know what that is, since everyone else seems to "get it.":hi:

To true Nascar fans Bristol is monumental. This ball game is like when Nascar went to Indy-the holy land of open wheel racing. I don't watch Japcar anymore but to see my beloved Vols at my favorite track is priceless. Sturgis and BMS in '16 is my entire bucket list!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I don't think there can be a football game at any NASCAR track other than BMS. The reason is because BMS is the smallest track in NASCAR. A lot of the other tracks are way too big, and it would be too difficult to watch a football game.

Martinsville is smaller. According to the paper there will be TV's everywhere.

no offense to the OP, for asking an honest question, but i really dont understand how you could not be excited for this game or even dare miss it for a television. 160,000 fans. there is going to be orange checkerboard all over everything. we should market orange checkerboard flags to sell.

I want to be a part of history! And I also think this will be a great recruiting tool for our staff for the next 3 years! Go VOLS!

Why?

NFL talented kids don't pick a school over another because one of the 40 games they hope to play is going to be at a race track.

And if you don't think some kids these days will not give UT more consideration because of this your kidding yourself.

As for views, I have sat on concrete bleachers, aluminum bleachers even rock back back in the day and never felt like I had a bad view.

Would you rather see the Vols play Austin P to a crowd of 85,000 in Neyland or go to Bristol and watch them play VT in front of the largest ever crowd to watch a CFB game?

It could very well be the most watched regular season college football game on television...ever, too.

Law...can you honestly say that you and gator nation wouldn't be just as pumped as we are for all the same reasons, if UF had this opportunity?

I feel like we will have a shot at winning the east by 2016 and 153,000+ fans. There will be a lot of people around the globe watching that history and it will be played in the back yard of Knoxville, etc..

I live in Bristol and a few of my fellow vol friends are already talking about camping out at the track just for the excitement of this event.
This could be one of the best tailgating events ever.

Just to see the Vols play locally is a exciting factor.

I know the Bristol community will go out of its way to make this a unforgettable experience.

Yes. Closest analogy would be playing at Daytona intn'l speedway, would add nothing. We prefer to play at home. I'd actually view it as a cheap money-making gimmick and roll my eyes.

This is not like UF-UGA in Jax for decades as the worlds largest outdoor cocktail party. Now, you ride this gimmick game for 10 years? Ok.

But once? Meh, it's a stunt.

It's most definitely like UF-UGA. It's a huge event/party, and a major recruiting tool. Yes, it's one game, but it's also going to be one of the biggest college football happenings in history particularly if both teams come into the game ranked. You don't get the opportunity to be a part of many of those during a four year college career, and this one is a guarantee.

In addition, if you wouldn't be pumped about UF playing at Daytona, you're pretty much a crappy fan. That, or being a Gator fan for too long has made you a miserable person who doesn't like fun. Because I'm positive that something like UF vs. FSU in Daytona would be a ridiculous amount of fun just like UT vs. VT will be at Bristol.

VT versus UT is not in the same universe as UF versus FSU.

And while I do think UT is likely to be better by then, I'm sorry but VT is, and has been for a long time, probably the single most frequently overrated team in the country. A constant disappointment.

Look, for fans of the school I'm sure it will be fun. But based on a reasonable prognostication of the teams, I just don't see it being nearly as important as a fan of one of the involved teams would like it to be.

And the notion that it's going to make a difference to top quality recruits is just ridiculous.
