Why is it now illegal to rag on dooley?

He is fair game. He actually conspired to leave this program in worse shape than he found it.

In one respect, we should probably thank him. Coaches love taking over big-time programs at rock-bottom. Thanks to Dooley's historic incompetence, the Tennessee job has more appeal now than it did when Fulmer left.

It doesn't get any worse than a head coach whose mark of progress over the last two seasons was beating Vanderbilt.

Conspired to leave the program worse than he found it? Please explain this. I can't wait to hear it.

You can dish it out but can't take it? Typical.

The funny thing is that I didn't really dish anything in my op. I was merely posing an observation. The only thing really negative I said about dooley was the first sentence, but I figured the whole "time-honored tradition" thing would give away that it was a bit tongue-in-cheek.

And here I was thinking your DFL-self just didn't want to hear criticism of a coach who has been gone for one week!

Let me guess: he needed a year 4, 5, and 6 before he could actually be evaluated.

I'll admit the term "conspired" is quite harsh. "Managed" is far better.

Thinking its a bit ridiculous and immature to bash a man who is no longer the coach here has nothing to do with being a DFL as you call it. I'm thankful that he left this program in a better place than he found it. The man couldn't win and was fired. I'm fine with that. The constant bashing of him and the silly attempts to justify it are embarrassing.

Where the hell did you learn the English language?

This program was in far better shape in 2008. Yeah, we had an NFL QB at the time who couldn't perform, and were on course for a very mediocre season.

But, Kiffin threw the program in the gawddam tip.

And that's because of guys like you (I bet) calling for Fulmer to be fired mid-season. Funny, without firing him mid-season, we would have had a better season than any since.

Gruden... soon!

A better place is winning one SEC game in two seasons?

A better place is recruiting against Sun Belt programs for players?

A better place is struggling to defeat average MAC programs on the field?

You think Florida fans stayed quiet about Zook after he was fired?

You think A&M fans let Sherman go in peace after his dismissal?

There are still Alabama fans taking shots at Ray Perkins, and deservedly so.

Here we are one week after the dismissal of an absolute disaster of a coach, and you want to appoint yourself public guardian of Dooley's legacy.

No one granted you the right to determine how Dooley is remembered as a man, a coach, and a leader. No one gave you the liberty to act as a censor to those who look at the last three years and see the Tennessee program for what it has become under the "inspired" direction of a flawed individual.

He left it in a better place? You can't possibly say that looking at the worst two seasons in Tennessee's SEC history.

The way we treated Fulmer has a lot to do with where we are as a program.

I don't care what you say about his record or coaching ability. The personal shots is what I am talking about. They are unnecessary. You are in serious denial if you think we are worse off than when Dooley took over.

I wouldn't say illegal, but just plain stupid. First of all, IT'S A GAME, boys. He came here when no one else wanted THIS job to coach this GAME! The man tried, for crying out loud. Do you d'bags have nothing better to do than to worry about this football program to the level you do? Would your life change if this program no longer existed? If your answer is yes, then please, please find a girlfriend, or a job, or read a book! It's a game! Yes, I'm repeating the phrase, it's a game, because most of you will never get it. It's a game and it will always be a game that will never change the outcome of the earth's rotation! And the fact that some of you expect the university to 'pony up' the cash to get a Nick Saban or an Urban Meyer, I guess you haven't looked at the state of this economy. People that are unemployed, which seems to be most of this board, couldn't give two s**ts if their college team won their next game, let alone a national championship! Maybe 5 mil a year could go along way toward helping some people instead of hoping it will produce a winning football program. Really? 5 mil a year to coach a friggan kids game? You know what, forget it. Why am I talking? I know most of you knuckleheads will come up with some sort of nobel prize winning rebuttal to justify your animosity for Dooley and to justify your mouth-breathing over this football program so I'll just quit. I'm going to pull for them Saturday and enjoy the rest of you being pathetic.

You act like a little child so often about this situation, I'm sure you have some handy that we can borrow.

Grow up.

Actually it's the first time I've commented on "the rules on if/when Dooley can be criticized." Nice try though.

Maybe you should rack up another 10k posts in the Pub, I'm sure the "thread that won't die" and "what brand of cranberry juice I had this morning" responders are waiting for you.

Sorry your hero Dooley didn't work out. We had to listen to people like you tell us for 3 years (or 2 I guess, year zero right?) how this man was going to get us back (and if we didnt agree, we were "childish" and "ignorant") even though anyone with half a brain could have told you otherwise. Sure, he still gets 110k a month from the University, but that money couldn't be used for anything else right?

If he continues to draw money (and a large amount of it), he's fair game for criticism. He's still a burden on us.

By the way, I'll be in the same section today that I'm always in. Feel free to swing by, I'll buy you a Petros and explain to you that when the stadium is half empty, and he is on the payroll for such a large amount, how he is still a burden on the University.

You're dealing with a group of individuals so far detached from reality they blamed Dooley's problems on negative posts on message boards.

really?.. no one said his problems were caused by the negative posts..

They simply said they made it harder and gave other schools more fuel to negative recruit against us.. which is proven and true.

Would love to see a quote from someone actually saying negative posts caused Dooley's issues.

Lol, and you say other people are detached from reality :loco:

Amazing. First you say no one blames message board posts. Then, in the very next sentence, you blame message board posts.

Let me know the poster/posters forcing Dooley to compete against the likes of Chattanooga and Samford for football players. Where are they? Name and shame the people who somehow got it into Dooley's head that he wasn't allowed to compete against elite-level football programs for talent!

For the better part of the 1990s, one could always find negative message board posts on Tennessee forums bashing Fulmer, Chavis, Dickey, and just about everything else going on with the football program.

I don't recall those posts stopping Fulmer and company from recruiting the Mannings, the Wilsons, the Colemans, and the Hendersons.

Sell your particular brand of stupidity somewhere else, preferably wherever your knight in orange pants ends up.

there were Vol message boards on the net when Dickey was coaching? And Fulmers years in the 90's?

I just learned something new. Wow. What were some common threads while Dickey was here? I must've not googled it correctly.

Just got a text from a friend in AL saying the new rumor this morning is that Dooley is going to be hired by Saban as an asst coach. Anyone hearing the same??
