Why is Trump destroying NATO?

..I was fortunate, although through alot of hard work and sacrifice, to be quite wealthy at a relatively young age. Fortunately for me, I have a very close group of friends, but, sh** tons of acquaintances.

My close friends never, never came to me for anything. The other's well, it was less than being forward with their requests. They never got anything. For my close friends, I paid off my their mortgages and car notes, everyone of them. Their gratitude can't be overstated. I will be paying for everyone of their child's college and will also provide living expenses so that they do not have to work like I did in school or grad school.

Now, my democratic friends who have been successful, they won't even pay for their own children's college, rather, allowing them to take scholarships to pay for their school.

Point is, if it's yours, you get to decide what to do with it right, wrong, or indifferent. I choose where my help goes, not the person needing help determining it. These countries have taken advantage of our overly nice and sincere gestures, and it needs to stop.

We, no matter how much anyone likes or dislikes it, we are the biggest, baddest, and most giving country on the planet, and if anyone wants to look the gift horse in the mouth and complain, no problem, go on your own and find ways to do what you want without our help or money.

I applaud your generosity--But, what an odd post... I don't have a clue how this relates to NATO --your generous largesse to your "close friends" vs. a 70 year old military alliance among democratic nations---but whatever ... I suppose all good deeds should be broadcast on a message board to illustrate a clumsy analogy instead of remaining a private affair between "close friends." But, your critical tone towards the aforementioned "democratic friends" is really puzzling. I thought traditional "conservative values" espouse hard work and sacrifice--which you referenced in your own climb up the economic ladder. Not everyone has a such a self congratulatory patron such as yourself... Always remember: BOOTSTRAPS!... Right?--you don't want those kids becoming dependent on tennvols77 handouts... I fear you might be coddling this young and impressionable next generation of future job creators.

No one is saying you should not press NATO countries to pay more for its support. No one is saying you can't ask the Germans to consider importing more of their energy from your US campaign benefactor oil companies.

But you do it through normal channels. There are structures in place to accomplish that. You don't come in whining about it and threatening people. It is unsophisticated and dangerous, and causes blowback, as we have increasingly seen.

If we always used this logic there would still be folks hanging out in East Germany behind the Berlin Wall.

This approach isn’t new. It’s peace through strength.

Dude, its symbolic of the problem.

And in that respect it is correct.

Just hope we can minimize the damage he does so that the next POTUS can clean this mess up.

God you are partisan. Blind actually. You just can’t stand that he gets results.

I agree. The EU is busy looking one way while Trump looks the other - America’s way.

Normal channels have failed and we have lost billions in NATO revenue. What we should be discussing, when all of the NATO allies have paid there share, is why we pay over 4% GDP toward costs while providing 80% of the protection from Russia?

German only gets 9% of its gas from Russia.

46% currently.

Trump is talking about the proposed gas pipeline that is still in the planning stage that will dramatically increase their consumption from Russia, Think that is a good idea?

Actually he is selling our packaged natural gas production, largest in the world.

Sounds like Democrats would rather see Russians have employment instead of Americans.

Radio report says 20 pct of their energy is imported. 46 pct of that is imported from Russia. So about 9 pct of their total energy supply is imported from Russia.

But that's just how I heard it reported.

So they are importing 1/2 of their imported energy from Russia and contemplating building a pipeline from Russia to dramatically increase that amount. Like I said, who thinks its a good idea? Is Merkel a Putin puppet? Where is the Russian outrage?

I also saw Turkish troops in Afghanistan so IDK what you're talking about.

Of course you don’t, does the Left ever? I guess losing 12 troops in 18 years, half of whom died in non combat roles, for a grand total of one every 2 years is quite the struggle. Not to mention purchasing rockets from the Russians. I would stick to empty words diplomacy from our allies like Hussein espoused. We are still waiting on Germany to increase funding to NATO after its tough speech towards Russia when it invaded Ukraine 5 years ago. No doubt John Kerry can fix it
