Well, I think Barnes is a good coach, not a great one, but good. I will take what we have, I can't think of but maybe two other coaches I would like better, but neither of them would be available probably.

Just curious, what is the basis you're considering that makes Pearl a "much better coach"?

Last 10 years (since Barnes has been at Tennessee)...

Wins:

It is pretty crazy that outside of the F4 run Pearl hasn’t made it out of the first weekend any other time at Auburn. That final four run will buy you a lot of good grace, but 5 years of first weekend exits seems like something that many folks would be demanding Barnes fired for, final four or not.

Yep, and the majority would be banging the table to replace him with...guess who...Bruce Pearl!

JMO obviously, but I think Barnes is the better coach and can get more out of a team’s ability. But Pearl is the better recruiter. Due to the slimy nature of recruiting, Barnes’ higher level of personnel integrity is likely how Pearl was able to better navigate skirting the rules to land more highly ranked recruits and transfers.

For me, I’ll take Barnes over Pearl

Not to carry a discussion over, but so much of this stuff just feels like a case of wanting what you don’t have. I don’t think folks are doing a 180 if this team is scoring points but still losing because they can’t stop people, just like I don’t think if Pearl was here and having the exact same results as Barnes they’d suddenly still be huge coach supporters.

Some people have a bit of a Mandela effect going on with Pearl. They tend to credit him with a lot more post season NCAA success than he actually has. Especially in recent years.

You're probably right. Once a coach hits the Final Four they tend to get a lot more respect/recognition. Get to that championship or actually grab that Natty, even more. That respect and recognition tends to last a while, too.
 
That's main reason I really hope this team can get Barnes to the championship game . It would put a final stamp/exclamation point on a storied career.

He made and posted a video of himself wearing his old uniform from 25 years ago. While he was the coach at another school. He may own us, but I still laugh at him.

I think both are good coaches and their records are similar. The biggest difference is integrity. Barnes has it; Pearl doesn't.

Revived this post of mine from several weeks ago. Coach Barnes just is not capable of getting us to the Summit. Think about it. In the Bama game, you can see him calling a TIME OUT with one second left as Jamal is crossing half court. What a bone headed (potential) call! Thank goodness one of the players took control. And losing to Ole Miss last night was soooooo predictable, as Coach Barnes cannot cross over the mountain top. I bet against us winning - easy money, but I would give every penny back to get the #1 seed, make it to the Final 4 and plant the UT flag on top of Ol rocky Top! Love the kids and admire their efforts, but we need a leader that gets us a Natty.

On the road, senior night - don’t tread too far on that limb with that prediction.

Statistically, 2 seeds are just as likely to make the Final Four as 1 seeds. Try not to write off the kids you love so much too early.

I was not aware of the new NCAA ruling that prevents teams that lose their second to last game of the regular season from advancing in the NCAA tournament. We really should sue the NCAA. Doesn’t seem fair that we are already eliminated from contention.
