Will arizona state jump the Vols in rankings?

Yeah, if they aren’t gonna give us a home game then why not drop down.
This^ if we are not playing at Home to me it’s just a draw and if you’re lucky you get a team that has a bad game. Any of these teams are capable of playing lights out at home. I guess a team Cuty within driving distance(less than 8 hours) would potentially give us some fans traveling.

Arizona State could but not Clemson. For them to get a bye they have to jump Boise and Arizona State and that won't happen with 3 losses.
Clemson can jump into the top 4 with a win (which is ridiculous by the way). If Clemson wins, they get the automatic bye as the ACC champ just like SMU would if they win. If Clemson loses, they have no shot at the playoff. If Clemson wins, the question becomes if SMU drops totally out or stays in and bumps Bama.

It's top 4 highest ranked conference champions. A 3 loss Clemson does not jump Boise and Arizona State (after today). The ACC champ doesn't get a guaranteed bye.

I don’t think ASU jumps us.

Manuel was on College Gameday this morning and said again that a team not playing this weekend couldn’t jump another team not playing this weekend, which means the Vols cannot pass ND or OSU, and we can’t be passed by Indiana or Alabama.

If Georgia wins, they and Texas will switch places.
If Penn State wins, they and Oregon will switch places.

Our one and only hope of getting a home game is if Georgia loses and the committee decides to drop them two spots instead of one.

This. The only shot of the ACC getting a bye is if SMU wins (which puts Arizona State in a first-round game). If Clemson wins, Arizona State gets the 4th bye and Clemson gets a first round game.

Do the AP and coaches polls come out after the conference championship games? If so Clemson could very well move up.

All that matters if the committee. AP and Coaches polls mean absolutely nothing at this point. Both polls could put Bama at 1 after today and they would still be 11 in the playoff rankings because the committee put them there last week and they have no opportunity to move up because they dont play another game. Only down. Using Bama as an example but both those polls mean squat now.

This has nothing to do with the CFP rankings, which are the only ones that matter. Clemson could be ranked 8th in the AP poll tomorrow and - for the 62nd time - it will have no bearing on the CFP rankings and the playoff bracket.

Clemson cannot get a bye. They aren’t jumping the SEC champ, or the B1G champ, or Boise State, or Arizona State. They will be the 11th or 12th seed if they win.

Again: ZERO CHANCE OF CLEMSON GETTING A BYE.

The bye system is total lunacy. The biggest flaw by far. Maybe we should move to the mountain west and get a bye every year.

I would hope this is the area of focus for change next year.
Better yet, just go independent and play nothing but cream puffs.

And Alabama isn’t playing today. The cfp poll is very similar to the other polls. Alabama can’t move up because they aren’t playing but teams that are playing can. If Clemson wins they could pass asu.

I used Bama as an example to show those two polls mean nothing. Clemson will not jump Boise or Arizona State with 3 losses.

You’re basing this on your opinion. The cfp rankings can change especially for teams that are playing today.

Clemson is not going to pass ASU even if they win 50-0. ASU is already in front of Clemson and they were dominant today.

I was just using them to show they are almost identical to the cfp. I wasn’t sure if they voted after the games today but the dude said Tuesday that teams playing today could move up or down because they have “data points”.

I give up. Four conference champs already ahead of Clemson will win their conference title - two already have. If Clemson wins they will not pass any of those four to get a bye.

God Bless You, my friend.

Thanks. I must have misread that. If that’s the case, that just reinforces the idea there shouldn’t be automatic byes for conference champions. No way the ACC or Big 12 champs are better this year than several teams in the SEC or Big 10.

While yes they are very similar, the release last week by the committee laid the foundation for the playoffs. The field is practically set. A few teams can move up and down and only 1 team can fall out. Bama. Clemson can jump in, but won't be any higher than 12 (in the bracket) after Arizona State destroyed Iowa State.
