Will Dylan Sampson break the all-time, single-season rushing record?

at his current pace he will almost certainly break the single season rushing record, especially if we make it to the playoffs.

Jeanty also gets the benefit of playing in the Mountain West so those numbers are going to be inflated to some degree. It’s one thing to go off against 1 big time program but if you had to string together great performances against NFL caliber players on a weekly basis then that’s more impressive. And before anyone says “you can only play whoever is on your schedule.” That’s not true in today’s world. You can transfer whenever you want and play against the big boys every week.
No different than what Barry faced at Okie St.

I think you're underemphasizing how great of a season he's had thus far. Historically, we are looking at one of the best ever seasons for a collegiate RB if he stays healthy.

He also nearly single-handedly beat the #1 team in the nation. 192 yds with 3 TDs.

The 29 season...........130 pts.

Also: 1929 UT played 10 games.........So Sampson has 3 games to not have an * ☺️

So, 18 touchdowns rushing, two more on kickoff returns, three extra points against South Carolina alone. If 10 of his 12 extra points came during the 1929 season that would account for 130 points.

I read what I could find on the '29 season.
I only found one KO return for a TD......the Centre game. No mentions of pass receptions or any Defensive TD.

That was one of Oregon’s first 2 games out of the gate with a brand new QB. They are playing on a completely different level now than they were then. That’s why I said anyone can go off against one of the big boys on any given day but if you have to play those types of teams throughout a season you are going to get beat down and have to play banged up at some point. I don’t think people truly appreciate the level of play that is in the big 2 conferences. It’s not even close to what is being played in the other conferences.

Call it Inflated al you want his numbers are insane. We can hate all we want but averaging 10 yards a carry on 126 carries is sort of nuts. I don't care if you're playing Kent State every week averaging 200 yards a game is amazing. How amazing? Only two people have ever done it for a season Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen

in 6 games he has rushed for 1248 yards already. Boise State will play in at least 7 more games bowl game maybe 8 (conference championship). Being conservative and giving him 100 yards a game (he currently Averages 208 a game) puts him in the 2000 yard club. He needs to average 175 a game to pass Barry Sanders but that would have an asterisk. He is tied with Dylan for 2nd in rushing TD'swith 17 behind army QB Bryson Daily's (who seems to have the same plug as Vandys QB) 19.

Does not take away from the fact that only 2 people have EVER averaged 200 yards a game for a season in ANY conference. Do you know how hard it is to run for that much every week when everyone knows its coming? He is not doing it in 30-40 carries a game he's doing it in 20.

Hawaii
Utah State
Washington State
Portland State
Georgia Southern

Those are the teams Boise State has played other than Oregon. You can drool over a guy carrying the ball 31 times vs Hawaii and padding those stats all you want but I’m not impressed. Let’s see him do it against some SEC teams and then I’ll be impressed.

Barry Sanders had over 3200 all purpose yards his last year. It’s laughable to even mention Jeanty’s name in the same breath as Sanders.

He's going to be the first RB taken in the draft. He did it versus Oregon, a top 15 defense.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that he's the best pure RB in CFB this year.

As for stat padding, he played 1 half of football versus Portland St & Utah St. Hawaii game had RB 2 & 3 out for the game. It was actually a close game until the 4th so the workload was justifiable.

Doesn't matter what you think. Jeanty will become the all-time single season rushing leader if continues at his current pace.

Also worth mentioning, if Jeanty keeps his current pace, he will hold the record with 85 fewer carries than Barry.

I looked over Jeanty’s numbers the other day so I could throw shade. I can’t. As @Volunteer_Kirby is saying, the numbers are so ridiculous that even against inferior competition, it is incredibly impressive. Do I think he’d have the same production against a power 4 — particularly SEC or Big 10 — schedule? Of course not. Would his numbers still be jaw-dropping? Almost certainly yes. Would I trade D-Samp for him? Absolutely not. Jeanty is, however, producing at the highest level of any back in the country right now.

Also doesn’t matter what you think. Barry Sanders was and always will be considered the GOAT running back. And on top of that, his bowl game wasn’t even included into his total. He actually finished with over 2800 yards rushing and 42 rushing touchdowns if you count the bowl game. Please do everyone a favor and stop comparing this kid to Barry Sanders. It’s insulting.

No it doesn't. But the stats? They tell no lies

If Heupel had decided to give Sampson 30+ carries vs UTC and Kent State like Boise did with Jeanty vs Hawaii then Sampson would have a 300 yard game and a 250 yard game. So because Heupel chose not to let him pad stats he doesn’t have 1200 yards right now.

McEvers was a little before my time, but I watched Travis Henry and Travis Stevens stomp mudholes in opposing defenses. What a two-headed monster of a backfield that was. I remember the "Give the Ball to Jamal" shirts too. Dylan Sampson absolutely belongs in that company. I feel lucky that I get to watch him play. I'm amazed that the single season touchdown record has stood for nearly a hundred years.

You're right. The other kickoff return for a touchdown came on the opening play of the 1928 Alabama game, "the game that put Tennessee football on the map." So, we have 19 touchdowns accounted for in '29. Even if all 12 extra points occurred in 1929, that would account for 126 points. So, there has to be another touchdown of some sort that we haven't identified.
