I for one want him to. We could be sick on offense next year. But I dont think he comes back because next season could hurt his draft status. Think about it. Defenses this year couldnt really double team him because they also had to worry about Swain and Bret Smith. Next year, he would catch alot of double teams. Who else is a threat? Lucas Taylor? Josh Briscoe? I think Hancock will eventually be a stud but he wont come in next season and lead the SEC in recieving. The tight ends could help out alot but we only have one deep threat and proven WR. I think his numbers would drop and his status would also. I think the pro scout could see that, but still. I think he's gone but I will keep my fingers crossed that he's with Ainge next year.

Thought Jimmy Hyams made a good point. With Meachem having a child and not coming from a great financial background, he's probably gone. I'd say he's a goner, but will continue to hope he'll be back . . .

I heard that Kiper rated him #5 WR. If that rating holds up he would not be a 1st round pick. I guess he'll have a tough decision.

i tend to agree with you HB...i don't think he's quite there in the top 2 or 3...and staying a year might increase the chances of a sure 1st round pick...

but hard not to ignore some of the injuries he's seen this year...and 2nd round money, is still a lot of money for someone that has none.

he's gonna have a really tough decision imo.

i won't be surprised either way right now.

I think he can buy insurance to cover the possibility of injury, not worth as much as a contract, but it is something.

Actually, Meachem is rated the #5 WR of the underclassmen. Overall, he is a top 10 WR.

The way it stands now, he projects 2nd to 3rd round. But that has a way of changing between the end of he year and the pro workout days.

If he runs 4.4 you might see him move up.

But if he waits another year, he might be one of the top 3 WRs taken.

He could be the #1 WR if he comes back. Right now, I'd say 4 or 5, depending on his combine numbers.

It is a tough call though. If he comes back, our offense could be special next year, barring injuries.

If it is all about the money, then it will come down to where he projects. The difference between early 1st and mid 1st-early 2nd is a whole lot of green.

He may be one of those guys that wants to come back and try to win a ring. Like I've said before, he also has a great relationship with Troop(as in father-son type). He may also get told that he will probably end up in the 2nd round because of other WRs coming out. He also may have Ainge whispering in his ear to stay so they can groom some of the younger WRs.

I thought he was gone until I watched the USC Cal game and they were talking about all the great WR's out there. That got me to thinking he might better off to wait another year. They are Jarrett at USC, Doucet atLSU, Monk at Ark., S?/#@ at ND, Johnson at TEch.

I hope he returns. I think we have some great receivers just waiting to get all the first string snaps next year. With Meach back we will be sick on offense next year. The defense should be much better as well, They were very young and inexperienced this year after we lost a few players

My main worry for next year is the DBs. They could be good or horrible. We return Hef, Fellows, DMo, Kemp, Wardlow, Gaines, and M Johnson. If we can land Berry and maybe Smith, I will feel alot better.

meach will more than likely not return.......however on a high note, ainge will have plenty of talent to pass to...receiver is one of the positions we have a ton of depth at

heres the deal...if your kid could play concert piano at the NY Met rather than the Knoxville orchestra, i bet you and i would tell our kid, go to NY, grab the $ while you can, we loved you in Knoxville, but NY is first rate. if meachem goes, good for him and his, if he stays great for us and ours...the window is only open for a short time, it closes quick, and if hurt, we aren't going to provide for him
and his...Go vols!!
