Will Meachem come back? (merged)

Wait a second.."FAITHFUL individual"s don't care about money? I'm just ribbing you a little here but I think this paragraph was mildly amusing. It's cool to read what some people think up. (Again, just discussing, not flaming you)

Why stay? I don't think anyone has answered that yet. Because he will improve? Is that not possible in the NFL? Because he'll make more money? It's not possible to improve and renegotiate contracts in the NFL? I just don't see him risking the money against injury next year. He can make a million dollars right now or come back, hope you play well and avoid injury all season long. The choice really doesn't seem difficult to me.

Is it easier to improve if you are considered a 3rd string or 2nd string WR in the NFL??? Right now Meachem would be 3rd string in almost any system he gets put into. Not only that, but he doesn't have a characteristic that sets him apart from other WRs. So with that said, he has to prove to the scouts in the NFL that he has intangibles to make him a #1 or #2 guy in the NFL systems. That's why he stays and gets himself prepared, improves himself, and shows EVERYONE in the country how good he really is.

I for one want him to. We could be sick on offense next year. But I dont think he comes back because next season could hurt his draft status. Think about it. Defenses this year couldnt really double team him because they also had to worry about Swain and Bret Smith. Next year, he would catch alot of double teams. Who else is a threat? Lucas Taylor? Josh Briscoe? I think Hancock will eventually be a stud but he wont come in next season and lead the SEC in recieving. The tight ends could help out alot but we only have one deep threat and proven WR. I think his numbers would drop and his status would also. I think the pro scout could see that, but still. I think he's gone but I will keep my fingers crossed that he's with Ainge next year.

Personally, I wish Lucas Taylor was a senior or transferring, also I am glad to see that Antwaun Stewart is graduating and will no longer be around.

I see meachem sticking around, Yeah he has a family, but im sure their taken care of. Meachem had an awesome year, but 1 good year i dont see as being enough. I think he sticks around and is top 3 rec. next year, our offense will be NASSSSTTTTTYYYYYY, if we survive the road trip in berkely and in gainsville we could have a a shot at the NT next year

I told my wife a few weeks ago, Antwan can't just make a great play, he has to follow it with a huge mistake. He could make the game winning Touchdown, and crap his pants before he made it to the locker room.

I was ready to jump on Taylor for that fumble yesterday... but he did have a good excuse, I guess.

believe he would be no better than a 3rd round pick in 07 but would be a 1st in 08.

Ok, here is the point.

First, there is no way Meachem could be drafted in the first round in 2007. Calvin Johnson, Dwayne Jarrett, Jeff Samardzija, Ted Ginn Jr., and probably Steve Smith would be before him. Meachem also has to compete with those seniors from Florida, LSU... I guess if Meachem wanted to try, he would probably be in the mid 2nd to 3rd.

If he wanted to stay for one more year, Cut and Ainge were still there for him, and he could be stronger for NFL. And he would turn to be first rounder in 2008.

What about the $$$? For WR, the contract for late half 1st round (20-32) picks range from 5 or 6 years 8-6M. If a WR get drafted in the top 15, the contract would be more that 10M. However, the whole 2nd round WR would just range from 1M-500,000 average a year.

So if Meachem chose to stay, 3-8 more million dollars are waiting for him. (Assume he was drafted in the mid-late 2nd round this year, and lower to mid 1st round next year.)

What were you guys saying last year when Lucas Taylor had several good returns and Antwan Stewart was a defensive leader? Meanwhile, Meachem was dropping passes and letting one of our best defenses in years go completely to waste. This thread is ridiculous. You guys will miss Antwan next year when Demetrice Morley is once again the consistent target of ever quarterback we face.

This is the first year D Mo has really gotten a lot of reps though isn't it? I'm not disagreeing with you that he's been targeted a lot but that's good coaching on the other side of the ball, go after the young guy......He, just like Taylor just needs some time to improve IMO....While D Mo has made some bad plays this year, and I do mean bad.....He's also made his share of decent plays....See the LSU game for example....Even though we lost

You are probably right, but it also means we are losers. He is the #2 corner we brought in from Florida. So what is the point of recruiting??? When our defensive line got raped , people said we need to recruit better. When we got talent, people said, well, he is not good enough though.

I like Lucas. I never have liked Antwan. I LOVE D-Mo. You got me alllll wrong.....again.

Lucas Taylor has earned 0 of these comments. Sure he fumbled last year on KR's, as a freshman. He will get better and so will Dee Morely. Players get better with more experience. Dee's just getting his majority this year and Lucas is barely getting any. Lets say Meachem leaves this year and Bret Smith doesn get his 5th year of eligibility, Briscoe and Lucas Taylor will be ready as the Number 1 and Number 2 recievers. Mark it down.

Sounds like I batted .667. You don't like Antwan and you do like D-Mo, just like I said. Morley played pretty well against UK, but beyond that, I'd say he was clearly the secondary's weak link.

I think Antwan at least deserves some respect for coming back from a very serious knee injury, starting as a freshman, switching positions twice (once in midseason), and for graduating. The very least people could do is not bash him consistently. There are plenty of other spots on the team that have room to improve. Stewart isn't the reason we lost three games.

Jimmy Hyams from scout is on 104.5 the zone on Monday mornings. I try to make sure and listen every time. He said that Meach is gone for sure this morning.

He has a 2 yr old and his family isnt weathy. That is bad news.

Cya Meach.

I have been trying to convince myself that one more year would bring Meachem 3 to 8 more million dollars on his contract based on his possible draft position. But anyway, Meachem has the best reason to leave. We wish he had a good NFL career.
