According to Gator Country, you would think Florida just hired the second coming of Knute Rockne or Vince Lombardi. All they did was reload at coach
I'm surprised at Foley settling for this. There's no way he was the only guy they went after.
On Day 1, this is no worse or better than the Dooley hire. I was totally against Muschamp being the coach here, as I was Dooley. Only time will tell with both of them.
Although Muschamp is a defensive guy, I think what will happen is that Florida's offense will be straightened out first, but their defense might suffer. So often when you see a head coach with a certain area of expertise on one side of the ball, it turns out its the other side that prospers more under him (immediately thinking of guys like Chizik and Stoops).
I'll say I've never been impressed with Muschump as a DC tho. He may be fiery, and his talent laden defenses might put up nice numbers. But I've seen them torched enough times to not believe he's all that and a bag of chips.
Somebody find the "real story" on a Texas or Florida message board.
1) Who turned Foley down?
2) Who all did they go after?
3) Where was Muschamp on the list?
ect....
One last point - the most common praise I hear about Muschamp is his "energy." That he is a real high motor guy who fires up his players. Ask yourselves who was the last head coach like that who won a National Championship? Meyer was intense as can be, but he wasn't jumping around on the sidelines and yelling his head off, neither is Saban. Muschamp's style seems to be closer to Trooper Taylor's, Houston Nutt's or, dare I say it, Ron Zook's, than it is to those Saban, Meyer, Tressell, Carroll, Brown, Bowden, Bryant, Paterno, Johnson, etc.
This could have been a lot worse.
