What? He killed someone. Self defense or not, that is still murder in my book. And no, just because he may have smoked some pot and allegedly committed theft does indeed NOT mean he was okay to kill. And I am not saying I was okay with how the media portrayed Zimmerman, but Jesus Christ, since when do two wrongs make a right? Just because Zimmerman was painted poorly does not mean Martin should be slighted...in any way, shape or form.
It's GS. We know what he is doing.
And if Trayvon Martin was white, this probably never occurs, correct?
It's about race. Whether you want to admit it or not, Zimmerman was following a kid (who was black) for no apparent reason other than he was black. It is about race. I know Zimmerman has some Hispanic descent, so no I don't think it's white against black. But it's black against stereotypes.
And I'd be nuts to try and figure out what the hell happen. There's only two people who will 100% know for sure. One of them is dead, the other is trying what he can to stay out of jail.
Again, if Trayvon is white and dressed in a blue polo and khaki shorts, he never is shot or followed to begin with. And that's the point of the media coverage.
It's so hard being white.
NEOCON is a white sympathizer that just likes to complain.
I am not so sure that race is the motivation for Zimmerman's interest in following Martin. He is the neighborhood watch captain for the community. He likely knows who is a resident and who is out of place. Remember that Martin had just been staying there a short while.
Race is absolutely making a difference in the aftermath.
Fine. He follows him. Whatever his motivation his, alright.
Getting out of the car was freaking dumb.
And whether people agree or not, when you randomly follow a teenage kid with just a hoodie on walking down the street, minding his own business, the race card is going to get played. I don't even think Zimmerman is racist in completley honesty. I just think he went off a stereotype about young black males.
Serious question... why do you think that stereotype exists?

I'm not sure about this yet either, the only evidence that supports this theory is where, in the course of the 911 call Zimmerman made, he states that he thinks the guy he's following is black before saying he isn't sure and describing the now famous hoodie. Shaky stuff there that could really go either way and we have no way of knowing. It's interesting that people judging the situation after the fact would assume that he was following Martin just because he was black, by doing so they are themselves feeding a negative stereotype. It's entirely possible that that was the case and Zimmerman was profiling but I don't know how you prove that based on the evidence.
Good question. In my opinion (and this is just strictly my opinion) we hear so much about the gang violence we are prone to it. There are plenty of other races in gangs, but what is portrayed on television and movies? Usually a black correct? I'd say about 80% of the time that Law and Order: SVU brings in a "gangbanger" it's going to be a black person.
Besides, I'm a firm believer in having no stereotypes anyways. Even if that "stereotype" exist, it shouldn't because each person is completely different and their own unique individual.
Perhaps, but Zimmerman (and others who may cast a similar stereotype) I'm guessing don't listen to much rap music.
Again, I really don't think Zimmerman is racist. But sadly (like a lot of Americans) he believed in a stereotype.
