Wiseman ineligible

You don't really believe that do you? Memphis, Penny, the #1 draft pick held out of the tournament? Over this? You're naive or your dreaming. If UT did this with Plavsic, I'd agree with you, but this is the NCAA. It's all about the money and ratings, and it always will be.
It's the ncaa. You dont have a clue what they would do nor do I. I just said could be banned.

That wasn't my question. Has Tee Martin donated? Does that make him a booster? Can he still hit the recruiting trail without eyeballs from the NCAA on him? That's the precedent being set here.
Tee, being a booster, donates to the school.......not directly to an individual with potential to be an athlete so there's no problem with Tee's recruiting.

Show Cause Coming.
That's my thought also. No way the NCAA doesn't stand strong on this. Simply put Wiseman can't play for Memphis this year. They may get a Memphis judge to favor them briefly but long-term Memphis and Penny will lose far more, imo.

You guys let ur hate of Memphis cloud your judgement. How is what he did in junior yr of high school relevant? I guess u think Penny knew Tubby was going to fail and he knew he was becoming Memphis coach in 2018? Most of you were talking about ur concern for the kids when it came to Uros but not now?
Regardless of ur hate of Penny this is ridiculous.

Laughing at Penny Hardaway aside, which is tough because I really enjoy laughing at him but, how could he possibly feign ignorance of the rules in this situation? There's nowhere for Hardaway or Memphis to hide. He knew he helped Wiseman move, he knew he had a relationship with the family in which he gave them money, so ... how could he NOT be aware that Wiseman choosing to play at Memphis could jeopardize his status? That's what I find astounding here. Memphis is trying to spin this as some sort of shock situation, but there's no secrets here. Everyone involved, up to and especially including the head coach, was a first party to the relationship that could be a problem for Wiseman -- only if he went to Memphis anyway. Any other school, he'd be fine. So ... how can Hardaway possibly not be prepared for this?

Penny is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and, when combined with a huge ego, you have a recipe for a major downfall

I agree. And I still don't get the BBQ at Pearl's house. Stupid outdated rules. This isn't just about Memphis or Penny. Someone is finally standing up to the NCAA and I hope they win for the good of amateur/college sports. Otherwise kids will go to the XFL or G League at some point instead of schools.

You have two choices in this matter.

1) side with the ncaa and that rules against improper benefits should be regulated and against the rules of eligibility

Or

2) take the side that all players can be paid and bought without penalty. And thus the ncaa as we know is dead and “lawlessness”
Reigns

If the ncaa folds on this one they are signing their own death certificate
Pretty well said. Even with the miscues that are sometimes made all schools need a governing body with an established set of just rules and the ability to enforce those rules for the common good.

I believe the issue is going to be Penny not disclosing what are clearly material facts (i.e., "I gave this kid's family ~$13 k to move here several years ago when I was an AAU coach")...we all know what happens when you try to deceive the NCAA (see Pearl BBQ fiasco)

If they want to put their careers along that path, then let them go. An education is always a good thing, but it's not for everybody.

I feel bad for the kid (not really since he will be a millionaire soon) but not for Penny after last year

Yea I can see the ncaa letting wiseman off the hook if he pays back the money but penny is in much more trouble it seems.
If he withheld information or lied knowingly he should be hit with show cause. It's one thing to do a wrong but to lie about it takes it to another level.

This case is a much worse scenario than the Pearl case. Hardaway may not, but should get fried.

Penny made a $1m donation to Memphis in 2008 which makes him a booster in the eyes of the NCAA. Wiseman's family, thus, accepted money from a Memphis booster which is an impermissible benefit. Whether it be a good rule or a bad rule is debatable, but it is a rule. That's my understanding of all this, at least.

What if he did disclose those material facts as has been stated? What if the NCAA changed their mind 6 months later?

I agree that the rule that caused the BBQ to be a violation is stupid but Pearl had the choice to admit a secondary violation or LIE to the NCAA. He chose to lie.

What will do Penny in isnt that he gave the money to Wiseman but that he knows he has committed a violation and has attested to the fact that he isnt aware of NCAA violations (just like Tressel at OSU).

It's not the crime, it's the coverup...

Yea.....that’s why I really hate this one.

I read the kid didn’t know. Now don’t get me wrong.....they always say they didn’t know. However if he really didn’t know.......I don’t think he should be screwed.......and truthfully.....for the sake of the other kids, the ‘Memphis team’ shouldn’t get screwed.

But dang Penny knew.....as he did it. And I have a huge problem with that. No one person and certainly no coach (even if you weren’t at the time) should ever do something that could cost a kid, cost the program and the other kids......it’s just bad and wrong.

Exactly and if Penny misrepresented or lied about what occurred to the 'AA's eligibility review of Wiseman then he has problems which would be compounded given I assume he has signed the annual attestment as a head coach that he knows of no violations associated with his program.

We all know the 'AA is corrupt...if it turns out Penny lied then it will be interesting to see if they treat Penny the same Pearl, Tyndall, Tressel, etc...

He didn't. The material facts have been provided to the NCAA (most likely from UK) after the initial May eligibility determination.
