Wiseman ineligible

Also on top of everything else, Wiseman can possibly sue the NCAA for clearing him know about the whole thing, and win. He could have gone another route if they would not have cleared him.
What if they had cleared him based either on misinformation or incomplete information supplied by his coach, Penny Hardaway? And I'm just speculating about that... but that would explain a lot here.

Unless Wiseman wasnt truthful....Remember, this is an issue now because since the NCAA made their eligibility decision in May, they got information that proved Wiseman got paid by a Memphis booster...

Wiseman’s lawyer just said on TV that if Penny was a white Coach this might not be a problem - lawyer is white.
I cannot believe he said that - wow

I can. Penny has no experience with dealing with the clown show. And the possibility that the NCAA powers that be are racist? I would not discount it.

The NCAA did not know about the 11K, whoever withheld that tidbit is in trouble. Could even become an IRS issue.

If Balin beats them that will only make him stronger in kids eyes. That being said I hope they beat the NCAA and other schools follow.

Not likening the ncaa is one thing; however knowing the rules, and knowingly getting your school in trouble is another.

People in Memphis May love Penny.....that’s cool, but he knew the deal, got the kid to come there and is now playing the kid even though the team doesn’t need the kid (for that game).

I’m sorry but for me that is douchbagary......to the school and the other kids on the team. Heck they could have to forfeit a game, maybe more.

And “if” the kid didn’t know his parents received the $???? Again douchbagery.....and not by the NCAA

If he is a “saint” and wants to help the kid and his family.....maybe have it done......but not by you.......come on he has to know if this came out it would be bad......bad for the kid.

I don't know the while situation. Only reason I know what I know tonight is one of my friends is a huuuge booster.

You have two choices in this matter.

1) side with the ncaa and that rules against improper benefits should be regulated and against the rules of eligibility

Or

2) take the side that all players can be paid and bought without penalty. And thus the ncaa as we know is dead and “lawlessness”
Reigns

If the ncaa folds on this one they are signing their own death certificate

Pay the 11k back and he plays. The ncaa saves face and all is good

I just don’t see how this could get worked out.

I mean Penny paid the money.......so he knew the entire time that the player would/could/should be ineligible.

This is why I have such a problem with this one. I mean even if he was trying to literally be the good guy. He may have screwed a kids college career.......which “could” cost him a draft spot or two and theoretically could cost the kid some $.

Agree with a multi game suspension. What about Penny though since he'd have to attest to no NCAA violations and he knows a booster (himself) paid a recruit 11k? How is that different from Tressel or Bruce Pearl?

In that case the usual deal is for the school to disassociate with the booster. That gets really tricky

Yea I can see the ncaa letting wiseman off the hook if he pays back the money but penny is in much more trouble it seems.

I wouldn't let him play for Penny. Either Penny goes, or Wiseman transfers. Simple restitution doesn't change that favor was ultimately bought. Penny shouldn't be allowed to benefit from that. We're not talking about a booster, we're talking about the coach.

Yea.....that’s why I really hate this one.

I read the kid didn’t know. Now don’t get me wrong.....they always say they didn’t know. However if he really didn’t know.......I don’t think he should be screwed.......and truthfully.....for the sake of the other kids, the ‘Memphis team’ shouldn’t get screwed.

But dang Penny knew.....as he did it. And I have a huge problem with that. No one person and certainly no coach (even if you weren’t at the time) should ever do something that could cost a kid, cost the program and the other kids......it’s just bad and wrong.

Nothing to see here matra worked out pretty well for Will Wade. "wire taps don't mean anything, we're all good" and apparently, they are.

I don't think the Will Wade saga is over yet. The NCAA has its hands full with Kansas at the moment, and it appears that 'Bankroll Billy' is going to be defiant as well. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. The NCAA needs to be careful how it handles situations where coaches have been caught red-handed. If they let these coaches skate then the AAU corruption will only get worse and more coaches will operate out in the open and make no pretense to be innocent.

The kid was 4-4 from the field and like 9-14 from the ft line, 17 pts with 9 rebounds and 5 blocks in 17 minutes. Won't hurt the kid going in the NBA Lottery, probably top 5. Only thing it MAY eff up, is his one year of college and Penny's job, which is hilarious to me

There is a hearing scheduled for November 18th to determine Wiseman's eligibility. Anyone else involved in a situation like this, would have waited until after that hearing to play Wiseman. Playing him tonight, when they didn't even need him to win, was not very smart.
I’ve never heard anybody say that Penny was smart. He thinks he can do whatever he pleases.
