With 7 wins,is Coach Fulmers job secure?

I said before the season that if UT could get 10 or more regular season wins it would be a sufficient sign of improvement for me to get off the 'Fire Fulmer' bus for at least the off season. I'm sticking with that so, with no disrepect to VU or KY, it all comes down to this weekend. If UT wins then they split the tough games 50-50 and won the games they were supposed to win. If, however, UT loses to Arky, IMO going 1-3 against tough teams coupled with down recruiting does not justify the $2 million+ per year.

I don't think that is entirely unreasonable.

Simply amazing how people will let something like 2 million dollars ride on something so small and insignificant.

To hell with actual results in turning an awful team around. Who cares that whole units have completely been upgraded. What's it matter that Tennessee has competed in every single game. So what that massive injuries are probably a good reason that Tennessee lost to LSU. Florida beat them by a whole damn point and are ONLY a Top 5 team. Oh, and Arkansas were to win an 8 OT thriller, well, that would just be the final straw.

People that gage their coaches on wins and losses alone, end up like Ole Miss.

Thank GOD you people aren't AD at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

I am proud of this football team this year. However, massive injuries have exposed recruiting and player development/retention problems that this coaching staff is responsible for.

It is good to see UT compete against LSU and Florida. It is hard to watch them get pushed around though.

Don't count on 10 even if we do beat Arky. I suspect either Kentucky or Vandy will give us a battle. Ignore our run offense and double team Meachem if you are playing us. It gives you a decent shot at beating us. The only major improvement of this team as compared to last year is Ainge and the receivers.

I want talent on the level with LSU and Florida.
Could not have said it better. We will see what kind of coach he is over the next 2 years after this season. He is headed in the right direction. He needs a SEC champ by then IMO.

to say fulmer hasn't recruited great talent is laughable. Yeah, we aren't as stocked right now as we have been in the past, but UF and LSU have had down years recently too. I mean let's see, we have a qb who's going to be playing on sunday, two wr's that will be playing on sunday (maybe more, some are still too young to tell), a couple of secondary players that will be playing on Sunday, some LB's that will wind up playing on Sunday, oh yeah, we did lose a definite first round DL earlier this year.. but no, fulmer's team has no talent.

This years team has no where near the talent on both sides of the ball as FL and LSU.

This translates in to SEC championships how? We have always put players in the pros! Hasn't yeilded as many championships as the other pro pipelines!

Funny, I didn't say that this team has no talent. This team has been crushed, crushed....crushed in the trenches against Florida, LSU, and AIRFORCE.

Where on earth has the comparable talent been against LSU and Florida? By next year it better show itself.

I completely agree with you on this and something you alluded to in a prior post, which is that Fulmer teams post '98 are notorious for not living up to the potential. I see this as a coaching problem. Player development has not been anywhere near where it should be.

And the wolves circle.

We have come along way from 5-6 to 7-2 and hopefully 10-2 by season's end. Player development this season is leaps and bounds over last.

We have Ainge, Coker, Mitchell, Johnson, Harrell, etc. out on injuries and Swain limping. The wolves need to back off and give the staff and kids kudos for a good effort and year so far.

Leaps and bounds are a start. No lets do comparable.

yep. i would have loved to finish 11-1...but i think it's clear that LSU and Florid are better than us right now. that said, we've done a lot with what we have. team records aside, it was important that we get some of the wins we did this year...UGA, Bama, SC, Cal...only Cal is any good, but as far as beating your conf. competition...so far we have beaten everyone we were supposed to. the two games we lost, we were underdogs in and were, arguably, the two toughest games of the season anyway and were question marks going in to the season. We had chances to win both.

i want more, but i can't say i'm overly disappointed right now. I think the coaches have done very well this year given the situation they had coming in to the season with all the questions surrounding this team, this year. And now, at this point in the season, we are down our best D linemen, our starting qb, coker, inky johnson, and swain, as you said, isn't 100%. the lack of depth is now showing. but the good news is that we should be bringing a lot of players back next year with a lot of experience.

this year in my mind has the resemblence of a rebuilding year more than anything. and i have seen improvement. it wasn't realistic before the season started to be in the BCS or SEC champ...and for 10 weeks we were in the disucssion again.

this is a good football team, they're just not great. i for one tip my hat to them...they have at least met my expectation THIS year. and still have a chance to exceed it with 10 wins.

Next year, expectations will be greater, you can bet on that though. and rightfully so. but my word of caution about next year is that as good as we may be capable of being....i have a feeling that UF, UGA, USC, Auburn, LSU and even Bama will also all be better. THe SEC will be like this year for the next few years. 5-7 teams with legitimate shots at winning the conf. and all of the teams will be pretty close in talent, with maybe UF having the lions share.

this year has been fun again. Could've been great. but it has been fun again. At least we don't have to listen to UGA, Bama and USC fans this year....

I am not disagreeing Lex. Just a bit early to dump on the team when there has been such a positive turn around from last year.

Not jumping anyone, just laying out expectations. In the near future I expect to look like UT belongs in the trenches with the big boys.

Guess its a matter of expectations, yeah I am pleased by the progress, but still miffed at why we needed a "turnaround". Lets see how it plays out!

Aren't we all. But that's life. Everybody goes through highs and lows. Think we are on the going back up part right now.
