How the recruits are developed will be the ultimate test of the class. Of course, our current staff doesn't have a stellar track record of developing talent. In a year we were picked to win the East(and should have won the East), we lost to South Carolina and Vandy. Losing to Vandy is never acceptable. Butch needs to make some changes in the offseason to improve his staff, and ultimately, the team.
Every team in the SEC this year was mediocre except for Bama. Check the records...also some other highly regarded teams were also mediocre, e.g., Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon, Miami, UCLA, TCU, Mich St., etc.
So, So typical of VN posting. A guy posts something worth talking about--I don't agree even a little bit with his premise--in fact, I think it is BS. But still, he posts a legitimate premise. He gets 11 likes. The usual suspect vulture waiting for the post, swoops in and says something brilliant, like 'this is ignorant' and gets 69 likes. This is how the stupid posting world acts.
To me is somewhat dissapointing to me... there were several players I thought we could pull that we aren't anywhere close with. If Butch can't recruit then where does his strength lie? We sure as hell know it's not coaching or player development. Next...
What made you think we could pull them? Just curious.
It's not surprising but still very disappointing that out of three in state 5* recruits we only got one. Few years ago Butch would have gotten all of them. Since he was not able to deliver the expected results and is on the hot seat, the sales pitch is understandably more difficult.
You're crafting a narrative to meet your bias. Yes, 3 5*s, but 1 was never really interested in UT, another is going to a program with a very strong recent track record of putting receivers in the league, and we land the highest rated of the 3. You can't just blindly blame everything on CBJ without considering context.

A little more context is required here.....
Stevens isn't interested in Tennessee in large part because of how Butch said they wanted to use him/which position they wanted him to play. Once they revealed that to Jacoby, it appears he pretty much eliminated Tennessee as an option.
Higgins is headed to that program with a recent track record of putting receivers in the league, because under Jones, our passing game has been horrible and he hasn't put any wrs in the league....the two aren't mutually exclusive imo
Jones gets much kudos for landing 5 star Smith given how his team performed this year....did some nice things to get him to Knoxville.
Then choose another team to follow where the fans never complain and are happy with whatever results the team puts on the field and post nothing but unicorns and rainbows on their message boards.
