Worst Class Since?

How the recruits are developed will be the ultimate test of the class. Of course, our current staff doesn't have a stellar track record of developing talent. In a year we were picked to win the East(and should have won the East), we lost to South Carolina and Vandy. Losing to Vandy is never acceptable. Butch needs to make some changes in the offseason to improve his staff, and ultimately, the team.

What a concept. Haven't heard that before.

Not really. We have practically whiffed on elite in-state talent this recruiting cycle. Not good.

We have Trey Smith, Ty Chandler and Maliek Gray among others. Not only is that not practically whiffing, it's not whiffing PERIOD. Just a narrative some of you have built up to justify your BVS.

Every team in the SEC this year was mediocre except for Bama. Check the records...also some other highly regarded teams were also mediocre, e.g., Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon, Miami, UCLA, TCU, Mich St., etc.

Doesn't mean it's okay we underachieving so badly. Injuries didnt help at all they were crippling however losing to South Carolina and Vanderbilt was unacceptable pretty much told me all I need to know about Butch. He should try to enjoy his last year here

So, So typical of VN posting. A guy posts something worth talking about--I don't agree even a little bit with his premise--in fact, I think it is BS. But still, he posts a legitimate premise. He gets 11 likes. The usual suspect vulture waiting for the post, swoops in and says something brilliant, like 'this is ignorant' and gets 69 likes. This is how the stupid posting world acts.

Because the original post was stupid and the vulture rocked. This year's class will probably beat last year's.

To me is somewhat dissapointing to me... there were several players I thought we could pull that we aren't anywhere close with. If Butch can't recruit then where does his strength lie? We sure as hell know it's not coaching or player development. Next...

What made you think we could pull them? Just curious.

It's not surprising but still very disappointing that out of three in state 5* recruits we only got one. Few years ago Butch would have gotten all of them. Since he was not able to deliver the expected results and is on the hot seat, the sales pitch is understandably more difficult.

You're crafting a narrative to meet your bias. Yes, 3 5*s, but 1 was never really interested in UT, another is going to a program with a very strong recent track record of putting receivers in the league, and we land the highest rated of the 3. You can't just blindly blame everything on CBJ without considering context.

I'm considering context, which is that CBJ is on hot seat and can't pull in all best in-state talent like he used to few years back. It's as simple as that.

So you're good with Tennessee being mediocre? I don't care what other teams are, I want Tennessee to be great.

Jones has shown he evidently needs as much talent as is humanly possible to get to a championship level given his coaching and player development deficiencies imo. I think it's more than fair to be concerned with where the 2017 recruiting class is.

A little more context is required here.....

Stevens isn't interested in Tennessee in large part because of how Butch said they wanted to use him/which position they wanted him to play. Once they revealed that to Jacoby, it appears he pretty much eliminated Tennessee as an option.

Higgins is headed to that program with a recent track record of putting receivers in the league, because under Jones, our passing game has been horrible and he hasn't put any wrs in the league....the two aren't mutually exclusive imo

Jones gets much kudos for landing 5 star Smith given how his team performed this year....did some nice things to get him to Knoxville.

Ok here's one argument I'm really getting sick of, they put players in the league. It doesn't matter what school you go to. If you have the ability and the want to to play in the league you will.
I don't care if you play for Tasso Tech community college. If your the man you will get drafted and go to the league. There are players almost every year from small schools that go in the first few rounds.

Then choose another team to follow where the fans never complain and are happy with whatever results the team puts on the field and post nothing but unicorns and rainbows on their message boards.

Why don't you chose another team to constantly ***** about? Nobody gives a F what you think the way you act like a spoiled, petulant child.
