It's funny bc us so called negavols all want UT to be successful we just don't live in fantasy land and stay optimistic about everything we'd rather be realistic. I like Butch as a person but he's shown he is stubborn and a bad game time coach. If he doesn't fire some of his assistants and bring in some new ones he is sealing his fate

Right now the 10-15 range is what we have to be happy with. We need to recruit enough talent to get to Atlanta and/or get to a NY6 bowl. Then take the next step.

This coming year is huge for Butch. I think he will either finish next year with a great season or he will get fired.

Why should we be happy with it? This year was supposed to be the huge year for Butch. He was supposed to have a huge recruiting haul, or at least match his previous classes. Maybe(hopefully), he has a few surprises for us....

The only thing that matters is meeting needs with quality players. You can finish top 5 but if those players do not meet needs then you are sunk. Team rankings is something fans worry about. Coaches are looking for the best players that meet needs.

You are correct but just look at the national championship teams. Are they full of just normal, mid ranked guys? Or do they have a lot of highly ranked, highly recruited top flight recruits?

Because with where we are today that's where we are gonna be finishing most likely. Maybe happy was a bad choice of a word.

Bottom line is that next year has become the "show me" year for Butch. He will sink or swim next year. He's treading water currently. On the plus side, the entire SEC outside of Bama is 8-4 or worse so there's other teams recruiting on our level as well.

We ain't national championship caliber team right now. We aren't gonna recruit like one without the wins to go with it. This should have been the year to make that leap to being a consistent power and start contending for the SEC and possibly playoffs in a couple years but it wasn't.

Gotta finish strong and hope to take the next step on the field next year.

So, So typical of VN posting. A guy posts something worth talking about--I don't agree even a little bit with his premise--in fact, I think it is BS. But still, he posts a legitimate premise. He gets 11 likes. The usual suspect vulture waiting for the post, swoops in and says something brilliant, like 'this is ignorant' and gets 69 likes. This is how the stupid posting world acts.

Disagree, Catfood. More pressure will be on the defense next year. Look at who all is gone, who is left, and who may not be immediately available. And look at how this year's D got gashed, especially in the later part of the season.

Shoop was suppose to make this unit the strength of the team, and it became a liability. What happens if that doesn't get fixed? I wouldn't be shocked if Butch goes out like Les Miles.

QB play will be important, but the brand new starter at the beginning of the season might not be starter at the end. There will be a degree of patience for a couple of games at least. Patience with the defense? Nobody will give them an inch. IMO.
